Shoman: Turkish state violates international laws regarding of imprisonment of Ocalan

The coordination and spokeswoman for the "Noun Initiative for Ocalan's Freedom", Sawsan Shoman, confirmed that what the Turkish authorities are doing against the leader, Abdullah Ocalan, is a flagrant violation of the right of a political prisoner, calling on women to get acquainted closely with the leader's thought because it is the way to their salvation.

On June 4^th, activists from the Middle East and North Africa launched the "Noon for Ocalan's Freedom" initiative, during a press conference held in the Lebanese capital, Beirut.

On the importance of launching the initiative and the women personalities participating in it, their view of leader Abdullah Ocalan, and ways to achieve the initiative’s goals, as well as the extent of its impact to bring about change and take actual steps towards achieving the physical freedom of leader Ocalan; about this initiative, Sawsan Shoman, spoke during a special program broadcast by ANHA’s agency yesterday evening, Wednesday.

At the beginning of her speech, Sawsan Shoman knew about the initiative, saying: "The Noun Initiative is the Noun of the Women, which was launched in order to achieve the physical freedom of the leader Abdullah Ocalan."

Regarding the importance of launching such initiatives and the conditions that leader Abdullah Ocalan is going through in Imrali prison, Sawsan Shoman said: "In the beginning, I would like to shed light on the conditions of detention, because as a political prisoner, he does not have any rights, neither from a legal nor a moral point of view. A political prisoner has rights, the most prominent of which are Contact abroad, his lawyer, and his family, if by phone or through the means of communication, but in the case of leader Ocalan, all these circumstances do not exist, and they are violations practiced by the Turkish authority against leader Ocalan.

She added, "As a political prisoner, he is not like other political prisoners, as he does not enjoy any of these rights, knowing that the rights of prisoners are contained in the Turkish constitution and is a signatory to international treaties that guarantee the rights of prisoners. And she continued: "The conditions of this detention were discussed and women's opinions were taken about it, and the practical activities that the members of this initiative can carry out in order to achieve fruitful steps to obtain the physical freedom of the leader Abdullah Ocalan, as we believe that the Turkish authorities do not practice physical imprisonment on the leader, but rather it also practices intellectual imprisonment on him, as it is afraid of his thoughts, so it arrested him and prevents the passage of these thoughts abroad, and in order to ensure the continuity of this thought, this initiative was launched.

Sawsan Shoman said about this, "We believe in the leader Ocalan, not only as a leader of the Kurds, or a leader who demanded the rights of minorities, but also demanded the support of oppressed peoples and the rights of minorities in general, and he was an internationalist leader, and based on this school that built social foundations, we are sure that this initiative You will continue with that thought."
