Habib on Turkish settlement project: Bomb could explode at any moment

Hikmat Habib did not rule out that there would be international deals to repeat the scenario of Iskenderun in the areas occupied by Turkey in Syria. He said Turkey is working to have a time bomb in northern and eastern Syria through a dangerous demographic change that is a fuse that may explode at any moment.

Turkey's occupation project to resettle one million refugees from Turkey to northern Syria has replaced the original displaced people from their areas;  Many parties in Syria have fears of the dangerous consequences of changing the demographic of the region.

On May 3, Erdogan announced a "new project that would allow the voluntary return of one million Syrian refugees hosted by her country," to be implemented in 13 occupied Syrian regions, headed by Afrin, Azaz, Jarabulus, al-Bab, Gire Spi and Serêkniyê with the help of Qatari, Kuwaiti and Palestinian organizations and associations affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood.

The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria considered, in a statement, that the project of forcibly returning a million Syrian refugees and resettling them in the occupied areas is a demographic change with integrated pillars and the displacement of its Syrian people from it, within the framework of its policies to create conflict between the Syrians on the one hand, as well as human and demographic change and playing on human engineering towards achieving the interests of Turkey and its policies against Syria and its people.

In this regard, our agency held a meeting with Hikmat Habib, the co-chair of the Legislative Council for the Democratic Autonomous Administration in the Al-Jezira region.

 Time bomb

Hikmat Habib said the Turkish state worked, in coordination with some countries, under false pretexts to return the Syrian refugees to Syria to destabilize this region.  Syria, where Turkey is working to have a time bomb in the north and east of Syria, and it wants to return them to the areas it occupies in order to extend its control.”

There is a big demographic change in the occupied areas

And between Habib, there is a big change in the cities of Jarabulus, Azaz and Al-Bab in terms of currency, dealing, education, and the great demographic change  in Afrin as well, which is a continuation of a dangerous project that the Turkish state wants to establish in order to destabilize Syria and thus try to implement its aggressive and occupying project for Syria.

Suspicious deals to occupy the region

On how Turkey can exploit the crises around the world and start implementing its projects to occupy the region, Habib pointed out that the Ukrainian crisis had major consequences, Turkey is a rogue country from international law and norms, and despite the international community's appeal to it to stop its attacks on Syria, it made suspicious deals with many  countries.

Establishment of settlements will lead to a state of division

Habib explained that Turkey is trying to hold the stick in the middle, sometimes with NATO and the United States, and sometimes with Russia, which has not yet decided on this aspect.

Turkey is one of the first members of the NATO and joined the Security Alliance in 1952, linking it and playing a major role in implementing the alliance's plans in Kurdistan and the Middle East.

Habib added, "On this basis, it has exploited the international community's preoccupation with the Ukrainian crisis, the great international challenges and the tensions in the European Union which will lead to a state of division.

The demographic change comes after an international objection to the Turkish military operation in the region

Habib revealed that the Turkish state had met an international objection regarding launching any military action against the region, and after its recent aggression against the legitimate defense areas and Shingal, it was trying to carry out a military operation, and after its failure in the military action, it wanted to have a role in the Syrian crisis through this project to destabilize the region within international interests far from the interests of the people.

 Shy positions

Regarding the position of the international community on the settlement projects that Turkey is working to implement in the occupied areas in Syria, Habib says there is a shy position for the countries interfering in the Syrian crisis, especially the United States and Russia, which did not have fixed positions, when he asked the Syrian Democratic Forces to stay away from the borders within the false arguments with Turkey, the forces carried out this step in order to preserve the region, under the auspices of Russia on one side and America on the other, but they have similar interests far from the interests of the Syrian people.

Regarding what will happen if the settlement projects are done, Habib notes, "We were all following during the operations of the green buses that were carrying many residents of the area from the countryside of Damascus to change the Syrian demographics, so that Iran and the Syrian government played a major role in Damascus and its countryside, and many of them were deported from  Syrian families from the inside within other regions of Syria to Idlib, Afrin and other regions.

Habib pointed out that they are facing great challenges facing the Syrian crisis, "this matter will be like a time bomb that will explode at any moment and lead to a re-run of war in Syria, and it could be dragged into a civil war."

Habib stressed, "We are with the return of every Syrian outside the country to his land, home and field, but in this way, in fact, there is a malicious planning by the Turkish state that is supported by some countries in changing the demographics of the region. This will lead in the next stage to a civil war that will enter the country in  A new kind of war and the country's entry into another dark tunnel."

Damascus bears the major responsibility for the demographic change that is taking place

Regarding the position of the Damascus government towards the attacks that are taking place on Syrian territory, Hikmat Habib believes that the authority in Damascus bears the greatest responsibility for the demographic change that is taking place.  International forums, or even in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of a government in Damascus, there was no clear and explicit position on condemning the occupation or the Turkish aggression on the regions, but rather accusations against the Syrian Democratic Forces, which defeated terrorism.

Damascus' goal is to preserve power away from the national interest

Regarding their attempt to take a common position with the Damascus government towards the Turkish occupation, Habib explained, "We have always called the Syrian government to dialogue. There is an external enemy lurking in Syria, represented in Turkey and its supporters. On this basis, the position of the Syrian government was timid, and in cooperation with Iran it expelled many Syrian families from the countryside  Damascus to the occupied areas to bring about a major demographic change because the goal of the government and the authority in Damascus is to preserve this authority away from the national interest.”

The Syrian government has precedents in changing the demographics of the region

Habib stressed that the Syrian government was supposed to condemn such projects, and pointed out: "It seems that there are shuttle security meetings between Syria and Turkey in order to plan such plans. The Syrian government had a role at the local Syrian level in changing the demographics of this region,  We in Al-Jazeera in particular witnessed this change under the pretext of flooding the Euphrates Dam and with various other pretexts. The Syrian government does not fully aim to preserve the national unity of Syria, but rather aims to stay in power away from the national interest, which is everyone's responsibility.

 Self-management options

On the options of the Autonomous Administration to confront and stop settlement projects aimed at dividing Syria and annexing its cities to Turkish territory, Hikmat Habib notes, "It is very difficult for Turkey to leave the areas it entered easily if there is no popular war and resistance against this occupation."

There may be another Iskenderun in Syria

Habib does not rule out that there will be international deals to repeat the scenario of the Iskenderun Brigade, and said: "Erdogan began deporting Syrian refugees to the occupied areas with the announcement of the United States to lift the sanctions of Caesar's Law on some areas in northern and eastern Syria.

Habib believes that the suspicious visits of the Turkish president and his understanding with Qatar and Kuwait that there was a deal that took place in this region at the expense of the interest of the Syrian people and at the expense of other parts of Syria, there may be another Iskenderun in Syria.

Demographic change is dangerous and a fuse could explode at any moment

Hikmat Habib stressed that the peoples of northern and eastern Syria will continue their resistance to fighting the Turkish occupation, and to stop the demographic change, "we will seek politically and diplomatically, and urge the Syrian government, if it is talking about patriotism, to turn with us to stop this disaster."

Habib pointed out that the region faces great challenges during the next stage, and said: "There must be a state of general mobilization and a state of awareness among our people. What is happening is a catastrophe that is not natural, and this dangerous demographic change remains a bomb that may explode at any moment."
