Turkish occupation state resumes reducing water to Syria

 Every year, the Turkish occupation state chooses this time to reduce the Euphrates water supply to the region. It has worked to reduce the Euphrates water supply once again without deterrence from any concerned party, as the Euphrates water intake has reached 200 m3 at the present time.

 The Damascus and Baghdad governments continue their silence regarding the decrease in the level of the Euphrates water, in violation of the agreement concluded between Syria, Iraq and Turkey in 1987, which stipulates the pumping of 500 cubic meters per second, while the percentage of water flowing from the river at the present time is estimated at only 200 cubic meters, and it continues to decline.

 In this regard, our agency met the head of the Operation Department of the Agriculture and Irrigation Committee in Raqqa, Sheikh Nabi Khalil, who said, "Every year, especially in the summer, Turkey reduces the water supply of the Euphrates River; two months ago, the water supply of the Euphrates was approximately 300 and 350 cubic meters per second.  currently, it has decreased to 200 m3.

 Sheikh Nabi Khalil pointed out that "Turkey's goal is to put pressure on the region's economy and agriculture, especially since most of the people of the region work in agriculture and livestock breeding, and if this work continues by Turkey, it portends a catastrophe for the people of north and east Syria, on the economic and social level."

 He explained, "Today, we are trying to secure water in adequate quantities for farmers, calling on all farmers not to waste water."

 At the end of his speech, Sheikh Nabi Khalil called on international and human rights organizations to intervene quickly and stop the Turkish occupation state’s control of the water level of the Euphrates River.
