​​​​​​​Afrin IDPs between Turkish shelling and Damascus blockade

It is well known that fines are imposed on goods between two countries but the Syrian Fourth Armored Division does abide by this rule as its security checkpoints on the road between Shahba and Aleppo are imposing fines on all goods entering Shahba that is just few kilometres from the city of Aleppo.

Zaloukh Bakr Co-chair of the Afrin Council said policies that embraced by the Damascus government on the Afrin people and the constant shelling by the Turkish occupation forces are not unrelated, both policies aim to empty the region of its people and weaken the resistance''.

Zaloukh noted to the historic resistance of 58 days by the people of Afrin standing up in the face of the highly advanced Turkish weapons and war planes''.

The Damascus government that ought to stand with us imposes a tight blockade''.  

Zaloukh said the repercussions of the blockade were shown after our displacement. Basics were forbidden to enter the Shahba region and the fuels that enter the canton are met with much high prices. He blockade by the Damascus government is not confide to fuels alone, even gas is not allowed to the region unless high prices are paid every six months. Luck of medicines and hardships met to go to Aleppo are also burdens on the shoulders of Afrin IDPs''. 

In turn, Haidar Rashid administrator in the Kurdish Red Crescent told ANHA '' after we were displaced to the already destroyed Shahba Canton by the destructive war humanitarian aids were not allowed to reach us . the blockade by the Damascus government impedes delivery of humanitarian aids and medicines too''. 

Rashid said every car or shipment that carry medicines is fined 6 SYP millions '' for this many difficulties and hardships are faced especially those have diabetes and pressure  and medicines of nerves are not available too''.

Rashid went on to say Damascus checkpoint are not allowing patients of Afrin IDPs to go to the city of Aleppo to receive treatment so they take other roads that are planted with mines that cost the lives of tens of people on these ways. Rashid called on the humanitarian and legal associations to lift the blockade and put an end to such policies''. 

Rashid went on to say the blockade has impinged upon the agrarian sector in the Shahba Canton due to the high price of fuels and fertilizers too causing many people to give up their lands and import basic materials''.
