In Hewler General Prison, 80 detainees declare a hunger strike

The representative of the Behdinan detainees, Ayhan Sayed, made a statement to the public opinion, in which he announced a hunger strike by a group of Shiladis prisoners along with 75 prisoners in Behdinan, in the Asayish General Prison in Hewler.

The statement said, "There are five activists from Shiladis who have been arresting in the Asayish General Prison in Hewler for nearly a year and three months, along with 75 prisoners from Bahdinan who started a hunger strike under the slogan 'either freedom or death'."

The statement added that five of Bahdinan detainees from Shiladis (Mahmoud Nasi, Amjad Youssef, Nechirvan Bediyeh, Youssef Sharif and Koufan Tariq) were kidnapped because of freedom of thought and participation in protest activities, and they are now arresting in the general prison in Hewler without trial.

The statement appealed to human rights institutions, the United Nations and representatives of regional countries and Iraq to intensify their efforts to secure the release of all detainees who are unjustly imprisoned.
