​​​​​​​People’s Initiative begins many activities to de-list PKK from terrorism list

The statement was delivered in Arabic by initiative member Mahmoud Ali and in Kurdish by initiative member Hasina Ali.

The statement explained that "the emergence of the PKK was accompanied by policies against the Kurdish people by the occupying forces of Kurdistan, from the obliteration of Kurdish identity to the suppression of rights and policies of indignation and denial, arbitrary and systematic killing, ethnic cleansing and genocide against the Kurd, all of the above-mentioned reasons, were sufficient to give birth to a liberal movement, such as the PKK. With the aim of fighting to retake all that has been taken from the Kurds and to protect their presence wherever they are. "

The statement said: "What supports this idea is the recognition by the highest court of the European Union, the Court of Justice of Luxembourg, in 2018, that the name of the PKK was unfairly placed on the list of terrorism in the European Union between 2014 and 2017, as well as procedural errors, the ruling also refers to Abdullah Ocalan's call for peace in 2013, and when the classification of terrorism was tested in the Belgian courts in 2020, it turns out that the PKK should not be classified as terrorism organization legally, It is a party to a non-international armed conflict, which makes it subject to the laws of war and not criminal law. "

The statement made clear that the PKK is the strongest mass movement between Kurds and the Middle East, adding: "Throughout history, no Kurdish movement has mobilized millions of Kurds for the right to self-determination, as PKK has done. It can also be said with certainty that PKK is the strongest mass movement between Kurds in the Middle East and diaspora, and supports women's freedom as a dynamic and a strategy for democratic society in the Middle East."

The statement indicated that "in light of the global war on terrorism", countries used the term "terrorism" as a political weapon to delegitimize the opposition and suppress efforts for human rights and freedom, as the Turkish state did against the Kurdish people, as the name of the Kurdistan Workers' Party was classified on the terrorist list to justify attacks on Kurds are everywhere, from discriminatory practices to military confrontations, through the arrests of parliamentarians, elected mayors and critical journalists on the pretext of links to terrorism, where inequality and many social issues have been overlooked.

In concluding the statement, the People's Initiative for North and East Syria demanded that "for peace, democracy and human rights, we address the Council of the European Union and the United States of America to delist the name of the Kurdistan Workers' Party from the list of terrorism."
