The trial sessions are continuing in what the Turkish authorities call the “Kobani case”, since last April, at the High Criminal Court in Ankara, against the former co-chairs of the HDP, Selahattin Demirtaş, and 108 politicians and human rights defenders, including 20 parliamentarians and administrators.  from the Peoples Democratic Party.

After 40,000 ISIS mercenaries crossed into Syria through Turkish territory from around the world, Turkey turned to arresting and prosecuting members of the Peoples' Democratic Party, which is one of the most important contributors to the defeat of ISIS, on charges of supporting the resistance in Kobani.

During the attacks of ISIS mercenaries on Kobani in September 2014, the HDP played an important role in moving the masses and closing the northern borders of the city of Kobani to ISIS mercenaries to prevent them from infiltrating it, as well as exerting pressure on the Turkish authorities to open corridors to transport the wounded from the besieged city at the time.

'The HDP worked to mobilize the masses'

In this context, the parliamentarian of the Peoples’ Democratic Party in Ile State, Necdet Ibekyuz, spoke about the reasons for the arrest of their party members, and said: “With a brutal attack, ISIS, which was able to occupy vast areas in Syria and Iraq, wanted to strike the security situation in Kobani.”

He added in a phone interview with our agency: "The battle was the most intense in Kobani, when Erdogan spoke at an event in the city of Dilok (Antab), and said that Kobani is about to fall into the hands of ISIS, it seems that they were waiting impatiently for its fall. The HDP was then mobilizing the masses on the border near Kobani, and delegations from the cities and towns of Bakur Kurdistan began to arrive at the borders and provided support the fighters defending the city, while the strikes pervaded dozens of cities and towns against the policy of the Turkish state towards the battle of Kobani.

'Turkey was sending weapons to ISIS'

Necdet Ibeküz indicated that the Turkish state, which is closest to Kobani, could have provided a helping hand to the resistance at that time, but that did not happen. In return, under the cover of aid, the Turkish state was transferring weapons to ISIS during the attack on Kobani. A number of journalists who exposed this were arrested and not  They are still languishing in prisons, and according to international laws, this is a crime for which officials must be held accountable, but that did not happen.

He added, "The Turkish state closed its borders to aid and did not allow anyone to provide assistance to Kobani. It even prevented the wounded of the battle from being treated. It is promoting that it opened a corridor for the Peshmerga to cross and enter Kobani, but international and public pressure forced Turkey to do so, and it did not do so in good faith."  .

Protests spread against the Turkish state's policy towards the Kobani resistance;  Cities of Bakur Kurdistan, which led to the death of 37 civilians and the wounding of 761 others at the hands of Turkish soldiers, in demonstrations that took place in 35 cities and 96 districts.

Turkish security forces set fire to 197 HDP offices across Turkey, 250 schools, and 1,800 homes.

For his part, the leader, Abdullah Ocalan, called from his prison on the island of Imrali on October 9, 2014, to stop the strike and the protests that led to the martyrdom of tens of hundreds of thousands who took to the streets to demand support for the resistance in Kobani to prevent it from falling into the hands of ISIS.

'The Turkish state wanted to sabotage the peace process in light of the retreat of ISIS'

Necdet Ibekyuz considered in his speech that "the Turkish state used the "Kobani issue" as a sword against the HDP. It wanted to sabotage the peace process in Bakur Kurdistan, coinciding with the retreat of ISIS in Kobani. Despite all the killing and arrest of HDP members, they accused him of being the cause of the protests,  They only have the names, there is no evidence or documents to prove the truth of what they claim."

'The trial on the grounds of the Kobani case is unfair'

Regarding the trial in what the Turkish authorities call “the Kobani case,” Necdet Ibeküz said: “Delegations from various parties and institutions from countries such as Sweden, Italy, France, Germany and the Catalonia region, and they witnessed this farcical and theatrical court that the Turkish state is playing, as a result; the court demanded  The European Human Rights Council called on the Turkish state to release Selahattin Demirtaş and his friends, and said that the trial in the “Kobani case” was unfair, but this was not listened to.  They carry out any operation until they are arrested, does it make sense, would Davutoglu want ISIS to carry out operations until they are arrested, while our party members are arrested on baseless accusations."

In concluding his speech, Necdet Ibekyuz called on the European Union to take more effective steps in this regard.  To reach an inevitable result in releasing the detainees, adding, "This party stood before the threat of ISIS alongside the resistance in Kobani. The world should know this and know what the Turkish state is doing."

The European Court of Human Rights called on Turkey on December 22, 2020, to immediately release the former co-chair of the Peoples' Democratic Party, Selahattin Demirtaş, and said that the justification of his years of detention was a cover to limit pluralism and democratic debate.

The trial of 108 people in the “Kobani case” is still ongoing, with the Turkish authorities imprisoning 21 people on baseless charges.

During the court session on April 26 of this year, the defense lawyers withdrew from the courtroom as a result of not allowing their clients to enter the courtroom for arbitrary and illegal reasons in the first session.

The Turkish state has turned the courts into theaters, deliberately bringing mercenaries chanting inappropriate slogans into the hall against the arrested party members being tried.
