​​​​​​​Mohammed Othman: Constitutional Committee does not represent Syrians

The discussions of the sixth round of the meetings of the so-called "Constitutional Committee" began on the 18th of October in Geneva, after the committee failed to reach a conclusion in the previous five rounds and in the absence of a true representative of the Syrian people.

The launch of the sixth round elicited reactions from the Syrian street, specifically in the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, who were excluded from participating in the meetings of the so-called “Constitutional Committee” and the absence of any representative from them in those meetings.

In this regard, the jurist and administrator of the Lawyers Union in the city of Manbij and its countryside, Mohammad Othman, told ANHA agency that "from the point of view of the law, the constitutional committee's work is illegal and does not represent the Syrian people with all its components, but rather represents foreign agendas, and we, as children of the Syrian people, reject its work in form and content."

"When we say about the Constitutional Committee it's illegal, we have to ask ourselves who elected them," Mohammed Othman added, referring to those who claim to represent the Syrian people, attend meetings of the Constitutional Commission, seek a solution to the Syrian crisis, and are unaware that they caused the crisis, conforming, "members of the Constitutional Committee must be elected by the Syrian people, but unfortunately everyone on the Constitutional Committee has been chosen by some external authority."

Mohammed Othman noted: " Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, AANES, represents one third of Syria and does not have representatives on the Constitutional Committee, this means that the Constitutional Committee does not represent the Syrian people but rather specific actors, and most Syrians are not interested by the Constitutional Committee because they have lost hope of it since its first round."

Othman concluded: "The region has been in conflict for more than 10 years and an inevitable war, and thousands are still in the darkness of prisons. Above all, solutions must be put in place to what the region is going through. First, to stop the war and to evacuate prisons if there is a genuine intention to resolve the Syrian crisis. "
