Russian delegation discusses with al-Assad joint cooperation, so-called constitutional committee

 Bashar al-Assad met today in Damascus with Russian President Vladimir Putin's special envoy to Syria Alexander Lavrentiev, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin and the accompanying delegation.

 SANA news agency said that the two sides discussed "the fields of cooperation between the two countries, whether at the level of combating terrorism or at the economic and commercial level."

 The two Russian diplomats explained that their visit comes within President Vladimir Putin's directives to strengthen this cooperation between Moscow and Damascus, stressing "Russia's permanent readiness to contribute effectively to the reconstruction and rehabilitation process of infrastructure destroyed by terrorism," and to establish investment partnerships with Syria in the fields of energy and agriculture "to achieve the interests of  the two friendly peoples contribute to revitalizing the Syrian economy.”

 The meeting also dealt with the issue of the meetings of the so-called constitutional committee, which will be launched tomorrow.
