Sheikhmous Ahmed: Tal Kocher closure impinges upon camps

Co-chair of the Refugees and IDP Office of the AANES Sheikhmous Ahmed warned against the negative impacts of the continuation of the Tal Kocher Border Crossing closure.

North East Syria house around a million IDPs from different Syrian territories as well Iraqi refuges all fleeing conflicts seeking refuge in North and east Syria where peace and security prevail. All were housed in 15 camps.

Co-chair of the Refugees and IDP Office of the AANES Sheikhmous Ahmed warned against the negative impacts of harsh conditions in winter as the Tal Kocher Border Crossing remains closed confirming that all aids provided are within the available capabilities.

Ahmed said that the Social Affairs Body and the Refugee and IDP Office are unsparingly working to meet all needs and basic requirements for all refugees and IDPs in coordination with international organizations active in the region whether they are official or non-official just to meet needs.

It is well known that winter in North eastern Syrian is so harsh due to intensity of winds, there are many tents that should be replaced with new ones, this step is going to be in coordination with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

Ahmed noted that they are already contacting the WHO to get children necessities and needs such as milk and medicines for IDPs and for supporting all medical centers in the camps and to raise awareness to stand up to the Covid -19 pandemic, adding that the process of delivering oil defined for winter is ongoing as all families are going to get theirs.

Sheikhmous Ahmed indicated that the decision by the United Nations Security Council to permit aid arrive through only Ban al-Hawa that is controlled by HTS groups and keeping Tal Kocher /Ya'roubiye closed impinges unbearably on the NES.

The decision affects negatively more than five million people living in NES home to IDPs and thousands of ISIS mercenary families all aided by the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria.

Since Tal Kocher is the sole gate out the decision had negative repercussion on NES, according to Ahmed who called at the end for a reconsideration of the decision to deliver aid to all IDPs and refugees in North eastern Syria as winter approaches.
