​​​​​​​Ocalan's lawyers demand CPT to visit Imrali Prison immediately

Mesopotamia Agency stated that the Legal Office of al-Asr met the European Committee against Torture (CPT) regarding the severe isolation of the leader Abdullah Ocalan and the rest of the political prisoners in Imrali Prison.

During the meeting, lawyers of leader Ocalan confirmed that measures that prevent visit to clients in prison was a systematic manner during March, April, May and June, and called on the Committee to act immediately.

The lawyers mentioned all the requests they had made to the relevant authorities in Turkey to meet with their clients, Abdullah Ocalan, Hamîlî Yildirim, Omer Hayrî Konar, Weysî Aktaş, and the responses they had received from them. According to the lawyers, requests to meet with clients had been submitted 68 times, only in the last four months. Families of the clients submitted 20 requests demanding access.

Legal Office of al-Asr called on the European Committee against Torture to carry out its responsibilities, and submitted to it a petition that included a sentence

Requests:

The committee should visit Imrali Island urgently.

Lawyers should immediately be allowed to visit their clients on an ongoing basis.

Families and relatives must be allowed to visit the prison on an ongoing basis, and disciplinary sanctions against the law must be ended.

In addition to the obligation to visit, the right to telephone conversations must be adhered to.

Lifting the isolation on means of communication such as letters and faxes.

Ending the state of preventing access to newspapers, magazines and books.

Take firm measures and implement them in order to end the inhumane practices and the state of torture and isolation in Imrali Prison.
