AA rejects UNSC resolution on mechanism for humanitarian delivery, calls for its reconsideration

The Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria issued a statement on the Security Council's decision to extend the mechanism for delivering humanitarian aid to Syria through Bab al-Hawa crossing which is under the control of the Turkish occupation.

The statement stated:

On the 9^th of this month, the United Nations Security Council, pursuant to Resolution 2585, extended the delivery of humanitarian aid to Syria through Bab al-Hawa border crossing which is under the control of the Turkish occupation state and Jabhet al-Nusra for a period of six months, which is extendable.

This decision comes after the obvious Russian-Turkish pressure on the Security Council in the last session.

This decision comes as a punishment against five million people in north and east Syria, and a clear confirmation that there are some parties that are politically exploiting the humanitarian situation in Syria, and this is absolutely incompatible with the responsibilities of the UN Security Council, the United Nations and its humanitarian institutions."

The Autonomous Administration announced its rejection, "We strongly reject the Security Council's decision that does not take into account the humanitarian situation in Syria, and this decision deepens our human tragedy with the continuation of the siege imposed on the region from all sides, as well as the worsening situation of the camps, where there are more than 15 camps in the Autonomous Administration areas, emphasizing that we are not against the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Syrian people from any crossing, but against double standards and the great threat to the humanitarian situation, especially in the areas defeated ISIS Organization."

The Autonomous Administration stressed that the decision does not take into account the humanitarian situation in a fair manner in Syria, "Therefore, we reject the acceptance of some parties to the Russian-Turkish measures, specifically the United States of America, stressing that these measures do not take into account the humanitarian situation in a fair manner in Syria. The UN institutions bear primarily the responsibility for that and the consequences of this decision which is considered a political decision in the first place."

The Autonomous Administration also requested "to reconsider this unjust decision, with our emphasis on reopening the Tal Kocher (Al Yarubiyah) crossing because its closure is a clear expression of a different logic about the general humanitarian situation in Syria."
