The fronts of Ain Issa district in Girê Spi canton have been witnessing a cautious calm for more than a month, in conjunction with Turkey's continued construction of military bases and artificial borders and the complete separation of the north of the international road from its south by digging trenches and raising high earthen berms along the seam lines.

Since November of last year, the Turkish occupation has built 5 military bases on the outskirts of Ain Issa district; opposite the villages of "Al Khalidiya, Al Maalak, Hoshan, Al Mushairfa and Saida" on the M4 international road.

In this context, the leader of the Syrian Democratic Forces, Melitan Çiya, spoke to our agency about the mercenaries' movements within those bases, the crimes they are committing inside the city of Girê Spi and on the lines of contact against civilians and the resistance shown by the people towards those who stole their land.

'Turkish occupation and expansion intentions collide with SDF resistance'

The leader Melitan Çiya says that "after Turkey occupied the center of the city of Girê Spi, it set out to take control of other areas of the canton, as it reached a distance of 35 km in the depth of the Syrian territory and expanded the geographical area it occupies and launched large-scale attacks on the international road and the center of Ain Issa district and its countryside it directly targeted villages inhabited by civilians and committed massacres against them."

Çiya continued her speech, saying: "The Syrian Democratic Forces played a heroic role in confronting the violent attacks launched by the occupation on the international road, Ain Issa district and its countryside and the western countryside of Girê Spi. The SDF achieved great victories and inflicted heavy losses on the mercenaries in equipment and lives."

Mlitan referred to the Sochi Agreement concluded between Ankara and Moscow on October 22, 2019, which stipulated several items, including the conduct of joint patrols between the Russian and Turkish forces, the withdrawal of the Syrian Democratic Forces from the border area 32 km away, and a ceasefire, and said: "The Turkish occupation did not abide by the truce that was agreed upon and violating the agreement, it intensified its attacks, which negatively affected civilians.”

She added: "The spirit of resistance and heroism that our forces show has increased the determination of the people to resist and defend and raise their morale to support us and not succumb to the occupation."

'Movements of mercenaries and occupation on the lines of contact'

Nearly two months ago, the Turkish occupation state and its mercenaries stopped shelling the Ain Issa district and its countryside and the international road almost completely with heavy weapons, after the fighting fronts witnessed, over the course of 5 months, continuous bombardment on a daily basis with heavy weapons, internationally prohibited weapons and UAVs.

In this context, the commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces, Melitan Jia, says that "after several months of heavy bombardment on the Ain Issa district and its countryside, we have witnessed relative calm for more than a month, and the shelling was limited to light weapons, especially on villages populated by civilians, with their movements increasing inside the city of Girê Spî and outside the city and on the lines of contact with our forces.”

In her speech, Mellitan Çiya noted the division steps and fortifications carried out by the mercenaries inside the city center, such as building military bases, raising earth berms, and digging trenches between the neighborhoods where their bases are located inside the city and on the lines of contact with our forces, where large bases were established along the frontiers from the Ain Issa district towards the fronts of the western countryside of the city of Girê Spî.

New rules and expectations for heavier attacks!

The leader, Melitan Çiya, indicated that after the completion of the construction of the large and basic bases opposite each of the villages of "Khalidiya, Al-Ma'alak, Hoshan, Al-Mushairfa and Sayda" on the M4 international road, it has now begun to establish bases opposite the villages of Kour Hassan, Silwat Qazali and Khaneh in the western countryside of Gire Spi.

Melitan added: "When we see the preparations in these bases, we realize that there are preparations for a more violent attack, and by creating an artificial border, the Girê Spi canton is separated from our regions."

She explained that there are military reinforcements arriving at the bases constantly, including heavy weapons and internationally prohibited weapons, after erecting towers with surveillance cameras and radars against drones, in addition to fortifying them with earth mounds during the past two months.

'People's rejection of the occupation'

In the context of her speech, Melitan Çiya touched on the crimes of the occupation inside the city of Girê Spi, and said: "There have been kidnappings and rapes of women, arrests and killings of men, theft of property, crimes, robbery of money and forced displacement, in addition to the fighting between mercenary factions with heavy weapons over the sharing of funds and carrying out acts of sabotage and sowing discord among the people, and the psychological pressures and fear that the people of the city experience every day.”

She continued: "The mercenaries and the Turkish occupation army, besides the military war, are practicing a special and psychological war against the people of the region, but despite all these pressures they are experiencing, they are strong-willed, possessing a spirit of resistance and struggle, showing strong reactions and demonstrating against the mercenaries and refusing to bow to the demands and crimes committed against them, and they reject the occupation in all its forms.”

Melitan explained that the people of Girê Spî canton went out in several demonstrations against the partition and the establishment of artificial bases and borders that Turkey is carrying out on their land, and they rejected the attacks against their villages, which they forcibly abandoned for fear of their crimes.

She added that the people of this region are the true owners of this land and have the right to live on it with dignity and peace, and said: "We will fulfill our people's wishes to return to their homes.

At the end of her speech, the leader of the Syrian Democratic Forces from the fighting fronts, Mellitan Çiya, confirmed that their forces had thawrted all the attacks and infiltrations of the mercenaries on the fronts of Ain Issa district and the western countryside of Girê Spî, and did not allow the mercenaries to advance one step forward, and inflicted the mercenaries heavy losses in lives and equipment, and they, the Syrian Democratic Forces, are determined to achieve victory and expel the occupier from their land.
