The areas of north and east Syria are facing a humanitarian and environmental catastrophe as a result of the Turkish occupation withholding water behind its dams.

As a result of cutting off water, the region has lost electricity and there is great damage inflicted to the agricultural season, in addition to causing diseases to the region's people due to water pollution.

In this regard, Hawar news agency's reporter met with the Director of the Martyr Lêgerîn Hospital in Tel Tamr district, Dr. Hassen Amin to talk about the dangers the region is witnessing due to the lack of water.

Dr. Hassen Amin said: "We all know that with the advent of summer some intestinal diseases begin to appear, but this year there are large numbers of people exposed to these diseases as a result of the occupation cutting off the Euphrates water in light of high temperatures, and as a result of drinking contaminated water."

The Khabur River has turned into swamps that are a source of diseases

Dr. Hassen Amin added, "The Turkish occupation cut off the Khabur River water, turning it into small swamps which have become a source of diseases and germs, and the most important diseases caused included (Leishmaniasis), in addition to many diseases."

A remarkable number of infected as a result of water pollution

In his speech, Amin pointed out that during May, there was a remarkable number of patients suffering from poisoning, inflammation and other diseases as a result of water pollution, especially children who were received by the Martyr Lêgerîn Hospital.

Turkey is waging a war of extermination amid international silence

At the end of his speech, Dr. Amin described the actions of the occupation state as an attempt to eradicate the peoples of north and east Syria through the use of water in its war against the region, and expressed his regret for the silence of the international community and organizations which claim humanity towards the crimes committed by Turkey against the region's peoples.
