Politician: Withholding Euphrates waters is evidence of Turkey’s failure to undermine will of free peoples

The member of the Organizational Office of the Syrian Democratic Council, Aref Abdo, said that Turkey's failure to undermine the will of the peoples of North and East Syria prompted it to weaponized water against civilians, pointing at the same time to the need for concerted international and humanitarian efforts to prevent the continuation of what he called the humanitarian catastrophe.

Aleppo - Muhammad Abdo

Since the 27th of last January, the Turkish occupation state began to withhold large quantities of water from the Euphrates River, as it only allows the flow of an amount of no more than 200 cubic meters per second to the Syrian lands out of 500 cubic meters, which led to a significant decline in the course and level of the river.

On this subject, Aref Abdo, member of the Organizational Office of the Syrian Democratic Council, spoke to ANHA, beginning his speech by referring to the goals of the Turkish occupation state by saying: "In order to achieve its immoral goals, the authoritarian countries, led by the occupying Turkish state, resort to using all available means against the Syrian people in general. "

Blocking the water is a sign of impotence

Aref continued in this regard: "Recently, after the conspiracy that began with military attacks, special war and the use of mercenaries failed, the Turkish state reached utter impotence, so it resorted to cutting water off defenseless civilians as a weapon to force them to submit."

Aref pointed out that the coincidence between cutting off the waters of the Allouk station and withholding the Euphrates water at the same time is deliberate, and the drop in the river level by about 3 meters portends an environmental and humanitarian catastrophe, whether in Iraq or north Syria.

As for the purpose of these practices, Aref says: "Meanwhile, in the hot summer days, agriculture needs large amounts of water, especially the regions of North and East Syria, which are the country's food basket, which may harm crops."

Aref considered these practices as geopolitical pressures on the people of North and East Syria in general, to undermine their will and resistance in the face of these violations.

Aref Abdo, member of the Organizational Office of the Syrian Democratic Council, concluded by saying, "The people are fully convinced that they will not bow to these Turkish ploys, it is necessary that international bodies and organizations intervene to solve this humanitarian problem that humans, trees and other living creatures suffer from."
