Yesterday, US President Joe Biden signed a decree extending the "national emergency" related to the situation in Syria for another year.

The White House statement considered that the behavior and practices of the Damascus government, with the help of the Russians and Iran, constitute a threat to the national security, foreign policy and economy of the United States.

It is reported that the extension of the state of emergency regime will allow the United States to continue to freeze the property and assets of a number of people associated with the Damascus government, as well as prohibit the export of some goods.

The US authorities declared a state of emergency in relations with the Damascus government on May 11, 2004, during the term of former President George W. Bush, and it was later extended due to what Washington described as a "danger to the security, foreign policy and economy of the United States, which was represented by Syria's actions." Concerning support for terrorism and maintaining its continued occupation at that time in Lebanon, developing programs for weapons of mass destruction and missiles, and undermining US and international efforts in the field of stabilizing and rebuilding Iraq.
