For days, the legitimate defense zones have been under attack by the Turkish occupation army to control them, and thus facilitate their control over Şengal district, and then facilitate the control of part of the Iraqi lands amid the silence of the Iraqi central government.

In this context, our agency met with the Member of the Executive Body of the Democratic Union Party in the Euphrates region, Ahmed Sheikho, who said, "After the defeat in Gara, the occupation state went through a difficult period internally and externally, not to mention the great economic crisis it is suffering from, so it decided to launch an attack on the legitimate defense zones in order to nullify the impact of the defeat it has suffered."

He added: "The defeat suffered by the Turkish occupation state in Gara was a political, military and economic setback for it at home and abroad, and it made the Turkish parliament request the account of the military authorities, and justification for the defeat in Gara, after they gave promises to the Turkish people to achieve victory there."

Ahmed Sheikho pointed out: "The aim of the attacks on legitimate defense zones is to dismantle the previously divided parts of Kurdistan openly with international approval, as well as facilitate control over the areas of Mosul and Kirkuk. The only obstacle standing in the way of this plan is Şengal district, and in order to reach Şengal, it must occupy the legitimate defense zones."

'Attacks on legitimate defense zones are not a coincidence but a message to the Kurdish people'

Ahmed Sheikho pointed out that "the Turkish occupation state sees the massacres it committed, starting with the Armenian massacre, passing through the Dersim massacre and Sheikh Saeed as its pride, and it links the timing of the attacks on the region to the timing of those massacres to declare the legitimacy of its succession to the shattered Ottoman Sultanate."

Sheikho added, "The history of the Turkish state towards the Kurds is well known, its policies are clear, and its goals have become public, which are the elimination of the Kurds wherever they are, and its ideology is based on this basis; therefore, its brutal attacks on the areas inhabited by the Kurds in Başûr and Rojava are a result of that ideology."

He continued, "The attacks on the legitimate defense zones coincided with the day of the massacre committed against the Armenians more than a century ago, and also coincided with the timing of the Qereçox massacre. This is a message from the occupation state to the Kurdish people and the people of the region that it continues with the politics of its ancestors."

'International silence gives approval for hatching mercenaries and changing the map of the region'

Ahmed Sheikho believes that "the international silence that did not ask for an account from the Turkish occupation state made it go further in the region and transfer mercenaries abroad to spread terrorism in every place it interfered, and we have not seen a serious movement of human rights and humanitarian organizations that are responsible for protecting the peaceful peoples, so their silence means consent to the actions of the Turkish occupation state."

He added, "There are immoral practices practiced against the peoples of the region, especially the Kurdish people divided among four countries, led by the international community that gives the occupying state legitimacy in occupying lands, and this is what was evident in the Rojava Revolution and the events that took place in the region, in addition to the occupation state occupying parts of its lands and displacing hundreds of thousands of residents in Afrin, Serêkaniyê and Girê Spî."

'The attacks on legitimate defense zones are linked to Qamishlo'

Ahmed Sheikho indicated that "a great role falls on the shoulders of the Iraqi government which does not fulfill its duty as a neighbor and does not protect its lands from Turkish attacks, as well as the Kurdistan Regional Government and the political parties there, and they must play a role in stopping the attacks, and the Kurdish people there must announce their position, and do not remain silent about what their Kurdish brothers and sisters are exposed to in the legitimate defense zones."

Sheikho added, "We must not forget what is happening in north eastern Syria, as there is coordination between the regime and the Turkish occupation state, and this was shown by cutting off the waters of the Euphrates by the Turkish occupation state in conjunction with the closure of the crossings by the Syrian regime, the creation of chaos by the so-called National Defense, in addition to the Turkish occupation state declaring the attack on the legitimate defense zones."
