Ethiopian groups penetrate Sudan... latter confronts

In the context of the military tension in the border between Sudan and Ethiopia, the Sudanese army confronted Ethiopian groups that tried to penetrate into Sudanese territory.

Sudanese military sources said, "The Sudanese army responded, yesterday, to an attempt by Ethiopian militias to penetrate into Sudanese territory," according to German News Agency.

The Sudan Tribune website quoted the sources, “The armed forces and reserve forces of the 2^nd Infantry Division clashed with Ethiopian militias and other forces that entered Sudanese territory 12 kilometers deep, accompanied by a group of Ethiopian farmers to plow the land and prepare it for the agricultural season.”

The website explained, "The Sudanese forces were able to expel the militias and farmers from the Ethiopian settlement of Marsha, which is located within the Sudanese borders."

The borders of Sudan and Ethiopia have been witnessing military tension since last November, when the Sudanese army redeployed its forces in the lands of Fishaqa and reclaimed large areas of agricultural land, which Ethiopian groups have been cultivating under the protection of "militias" for more than 25 years.
