On the 15th of this March, social media networks affiliated with the Turkish state published news that included allegations regarding the life and health of leader Abdullah Ocalan. Since the spread of these allegations, protests and reactions against these practices have escalated in the areas of north and east Syria.

The Co-president of the Bar Association in Al-Jazira region, Shaheen Lali, spoke to our agency about the matter.

Shaheen Lali pointed out that the Turkish government's position on the health status of leader Abdullah Ocalan is unclear, and added on the topic: "Leader Ocalan represents the will of the Kurdish people, and all politicians and human rights activists must move and communicate with international institutions and organizations in order to work to break the isolation on the leader Ocalan, in addition to allowing the leader's lawyers to visit him."

Lali noted that the Kurdish people in general should move and escalate the struggle in order to reveal the health of the leader Abdullah Ocalan, and said: "I also call on the European Committee against Torture to act according to its laws and principles mentioned in its internal system."

Lali also mentioned that the Lawyers Union in Al-Jazira region calls on all lawyers in all parts of Kurdistan to act according to the available circumstances and perform their duties in this regard. He also said: "We must move to reveal the health status of leader Abdullah Ocalan because there are risks to his life."

The Member of the Lawyers Union in Al-Jazira region, Mohammed Amin Al-Naimi, said, "The Turkish state considers leader Abdullah Ocalan its main problem," and continued: "Because the Turkish state is afraid of the democratic philosophy of leader Abdullah Ocalan."

Al-Naimi also noted that the responsibility of the European Committee Against Torture is to follow up the situation of leader Abdullah Ocalan, and said about that: "The main task of the European Committee Against Torture is to follow up the conditions of all prisoners, in particular someone like leader Ocalan because Ocalan has not committed any crime against humanity, and his only sin is that he demands freedom, democracy and peace."

Al-Naimi called on the Kurdish people to move and rise up against the isolation imposed on the leader Abdullah Ocalan, and he also called on the lawyers to act in their field, adding: "We have doubts about the status of leader Abdullah Ocalan, and the Turkish state does not allow his lawyers and family to visit and meet with him. All prisoners have the visitation right, especially someone like leader Abdullah Ocalan."

Al-Naimi also noted that the Turkish state violated all international laws, and said about that: "We, in the name of the Lawyers Union in Al-Jazira region, will continue the struggle to the end for the leader Abdullah Ocalan's freedom."
