Dialogue Forum on Language Day concluded with a set of decisions

The activities of the Dialogue Forum on the International Mother Language Day, concluded with a series of decisions and recommendations. The participants praised the experience of the Autonomous Administration and the need to support and develop it.

On the International Mother Language Day, the Education Authority in NE Syria held a dialogue forum in which, two main axes were addressed; The right to education in the mother tongue, and the multilingual and multicultural education in NE Syria.

The forum concluded with a series of decisions, most of all:

  • Opposing the totalitarian and authoritarian regimes with the right of peoples to learn in their own languages.
  • The need for the United Nations to adopt new mechanisms that take into account the opinion and interests of people, not states.
  • The UN's recommendations in this field, must have a binding nature and create mechanisms to ensure implementation.
  • That international and civil society organizations play an effective role in supporting projects of educational institutions in the mother tongue.
  • Providing educational curricula and supporting study in the mother tongue.
  • Praise the experience of the Autonomous Administration in this field and the need to work to develop it.
  • The need to coordinate with the legal and civil bodies to form a broad front that strengthens the rights of minorities and ethnicities in the field of language.
