The Culture Authority in al-Jazira region will organize the sixth session of the Women’s Literature and Art Festival, under the slogan “Women renew the spirit of cultures,” on the first and second of next March.

The Women’s Literature and Art Festival is organized periodically every year, so that women can show their products and express their culture, especially since the regions of northeastern Syria and the region in general are distinguished by the diversity of ethnicities and cultures.

Contestants from all regions of Northern and Eastern Syria, Bakur, "North Kurdistan", Rojhilat "Eastern Kurdistan", and Europe will participate in the festival.

At the beginning of this month, the Directorate of Culture and Art Authority, the Golden Crescent Movement and the Literature Committee announced a competition to participate in the festival on a large scale, as it set conditions for joining, and it will accept artistic productions until the 24th of this month.

This festival will include, along the lines of previous festivals: “Poetry, Story, Literary Essay, Theatrical Scripts, Sculpture and Painting”.

Each year’s festival has its own peculiarities

As different from the previous festivals, it includes: “A workshop for the young group to develop their talents and their writing inclinations and help them achieve the initial steps of any literary genre, in a group of 10-15 individuals to write essays, poetry and texts.”

In addition to this, a competition for handicrafts and plastic art, in addition to the fashion show of the components in the region including the Kurds, Arabs and Syriacs, and to introduce this costume by drawing fashion paintings with explanation of their history.

Many singing and artistic groups will participate in the festival, such as the dabkeh, theater and playing of various components in the cities and regions of al-Jazira region.

Turnout this year is higher

In the context, the co-chair of the Culture and Art Directorate in al-Jazira region, and a member of the festival's preparatory committee, Suad Hussein, told our agency: "The participation rate this year is higher than previous years according to the preliminary results."

She said, "The incentive for women to share their products from stories and articles this year is stronger compared to other years."

Hussein called for participating in the festival, she said, "The doors of the festival are open to all components and spectra in northeastern Syria, according to the required conditions and standards."

Difficulties

Suad Hussein referred to their difficulties in organizing the past festivals, saying: “We were going through many difficulties, as women were afraid of writing and showing their results,” noting that: “This fear is the result of a history of injustice and tyranny, and preventing her from writing.”

Suad Hussein emphasized, "With the organization of such festivals, we were able to form a motivation for women to write and advance their ideas and talent."

She added, "After the outbreak of the July 19 Revolution, women were allowed to show their talents and break many of the barriers that were hindering their ambitions. She challenged these difficulties and participated in all fields, including festivals that helped her express her opinions more freely through writing."

Recognition awards

The co-chair of the Culture and Art Directorate in Al-Jazira region, Suad Hussein, concluded her speech by saying: "There will be appreciation awards in three stages for each literary genre, and there will be appreciation awards for handicrafts, painting and sculpture."
