European Union: Foreign countries use Iraq as proxy war zone

In new warnings about the seriousness of the situation, the European Union ambassador in Baghdad, Martin Hutt, confirmed, Tuesday, that there are foreign powers that are using Iraq as a proxy battlefield to implement their regional agendas, which increases internal and regional instability.

The senior European official added that everyone should realize that a weak and unstable Iraq can only end up as a failed state, with disastrous re-percussions in the region and beyond, as he put it.

Hutt also stressed that it is in everyone's interest to contribute to the establishment of a prosperous, stable, strong and sovereign Iraqi state as a basic condition for the stability of the region, stressing that the Union Mission is making its utmost efforts to remove Iraq from the list of high-risk countries.

A few days ago, the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that "the indiscriminate weapon is condemned and rejected by all Iraqi forces," stressing that operations are continuing and with an increasing pace to confiscate all violating weapons.

It is noteworthy that the Iraqi government, headed by Mustafa al-Kazemi, had affirmed during the past few days its intention to move forward in restricting intrusive weapons and protecting foreign missions, especially after the missile attack that targeted the vicinity of the US embassy in the Green Zone last month.
