Yazidi survivor narrates horrors of living under ISIS caliphate

The Yazidi survivor, Assimah Jassim Khadr, who is 19 years now, was born in the village of Beberouj in the district of Şengal. She used to have a big family of six young women and three young men. She was kidnapped at 12 when ISIS mercenaries launched a brutal attack on Şengal and was left in hands of the ISIS mercenaries, when the KDP's Peshmerga forces abandoned Şengal, leaving its Yazidi religious minority in the clutches of ISIS, and Assimah was the victim of those policies.

The night of treachery

Assimah who was liberated after nearly 7 years of captivity, enslavement and torture, told Hawar News Agency some of the horrors, she encountered, and said: “We were living in Şengal in peace and safety before the ISIS's attack. In August of 2014, we heard the sounds of intense gunfire and the Peshmerga forces of the Kurdistan Democratic Party leaving the area, they were supposed to protect us. They did not even inform us of what was happening so that we could leave before the arrival of ISIS.

She added, "The Yazidis were no longer able to do anything.  We tried to escape and head towards Mount Şengal, but ISIS mercenaries besieged the Yazidi crowd, and they killed many young men at that time in front of everyone's sight. "

Disorientation and killing of childhood

“After they gathered us and sorted the young men, young women and the elderly, and separated all the families from each other, and moved the girls to Mosul, and I do not know what happened to my family and the rest of the people of Şengal. " she also said.

After arriving in Mosul, she was transferred to the so-called "Sharia Court" of ISIS, and imprisoned inside the court building for 10 days, after which they enslaved her with an ISIS member of Iraqi nationality, called "Al-Baraa", aged 21, to start a new page of oppression and torment.

Torture, burning, and enslaving

Khader said: “I stayed with the Iraqi young man for two years and a half, during which I experienced a real nightmare and subjected to torture, beatings and insults. It was forbidden to leave the house until he burned my hand that was tattooed in my father’s name, on the pretext that it is “forbidden”!!.

She says, the Iraqi mercenary sold her to another 45-year-old Syrian ISIS, called "Al-Qaqaa", who transferred her to Syria.

She continued, "I stayed for 2 years in Syria, and then he also sold me to another ISIS member from Al-Baghouz called" Abdul Karim "and I stayed with him for a year and several months and gave birth to a child. The mercenary Abdul Karim was killed in Al-Baghouz. "

From Al-Baghouz to Al-Hol camp

Assimah says that after Al-Baghouz battle, she was moved with the rest of the ISIS women by the SDF to Al-Hol camp.

She noted that ISIS women were intimidating her from the SDF and told her not to reveal her Yazidi identity, because the SDF would send her to Şengal, where she would be killed. She says that she did not know anything about SDF, so she preferred to remain silent and stay with ISIS women in Al-Hol camp for two years.

Escape from Al-Hol to Al-Busairah

She says that after two years, some of her ISIS women friends told her that they would flee the camp through smugglers. They managed to escape and reach the town of Al-Busairah in the countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

She noted that she lived with one of the women of ISIS there in poor living conditions and heard stories from some of the women of the town about liberating Yazidi women and bringing them to Şengal safely without any harm to them. Short, she went to the Asayîş Women's Center in Deir ez-Zor and turned herself in.

Salvation

The Asayîş in Deir Ezzor transferred her to the Jazira region, and the latter contacted the Yazidi House which received the survivor and will deliver her to her family in Şengal soon.
