The angry reactions continue over Turkish authorities’ arrest of the Democratic Peoples’ Party (HDP) parliamentarian and the co-chair of the Democratic Society Congress, Leyla Guven, as this decision met the indignation of the Kurdish street, especially since many parties saw that this comes as part of a political genocide campaign carried out by the Turkish authorities against Kurdish politicians and activists.

On December 22, the Turkish authorities sentenced Leyla Guven to 22 years in prison, after the Turkish Public Prosecutor fabricated 18 charges against her, following her peaceful activities and her participation in the civil movement calling for democracy.

Member of the Coordinator of the Star Congress in the Euphrates region, Hadla Hassan, said: "The arrest of Leyla Guven by the Turkish state means that women and their organizations will not be accepted."

Hadla Hassan indicated that Leyla Guven was not an armed or a military figure, but rather a Kurdish politician who wanted to introduce women's organizations to the world, and made clear that Turkey does not accept that women reach their freedom and the arrest of Leila Guven is an evidence.

She added, "Turkey does not accept and does not want women to have their voice and freedom, but through these arbitrary measures they will not be able to undermine the woman’s will, and they believe that by imprisoning Leyla they will break the woman’s will, contrarily, thousands like Layla are born."

"The project of extermination of the Kurdish people began with the arrest of the leader Abdullah Ocalan, and after the strict isolation imposed on him in an attempt to isolate him from the Kurdish people, they thought that the Kurds would not demand their rights, but they did not know that after the leader's arrest, the Kurds will demand their rights and follow his approach.

Turkey has been carrying out arrest campaigns for years against Kurdish politicians and mayors who have been elected by the people, and the HDP announced two weeks ago that the Turkish authorities had arrested more than 16,000 members and leaders of the party since 2015.

In turn, the spokeswoman for the Sara Organization for Combating Violence against Women in the Euphrates region, Najat Mathla said, "Turkey always wants to break the will of women, and targets Kurdish women and practices all methods of violence towards them to break their morale."

She added that the reason for targeting Kurdish women is that women have been able to highlight their role in all areas, so that they do not raise their voices, whether in the political or other fields.

Najat stressed the need for "women not to accept tyranny and resist and unite in the face of fascism."
