The British Royal Navy reported that the explosion occurred Sunday, without going into details, and urged ships in the region to exercise caution, and said that investigations are underway.

While "Havnia" explained in a statement on its website today: "PW Rain was injured from an external source while unloading in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, at around 00:40 local time, on December 14, 2020, which caused an explosion and subsequent fire on board the ship."

The company added that the crew put out the fire, and no one was injured, and that parts of the ship's hull were damaged.

In addition, the initial reports did not provide a cause for the explosion, and the Saudi authorities did not immediately confirm the occurrence of the accident that hit an important port and distribution center for oil trade, according to the Associated Press.

It is noteworthy that a mine exploded in the Red Sea off the coast of Saudi Arabia, near Yemen, last November, destroying an oil tanker.
