In an urgent statement issued to the United Nations Human Rights Council, Germany, on behalf of 47 European countries, condemned Iran's human rights violations.

The statement said that these countries remain deeply concerned about the continuing violations of human rights in Iran, especially with regard to the right to freedom of expression.

The statement added that reliable reports of arbitrary arrests, unfair trials, torture practices and ill-treatment of detainees are of particular concern.

In response to the statement, a spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry described the European Union’s procedure to present a joint statement to the Human Rights Council as "unacceptable."

This, and France, Germany and the United Kingdom summoned the Iranian ambassadors to it in a coordinated diplomatic protest against Iran's detention of dual nationalities and its violations of political prisoners.
