The resistance during 2014 to 2015 against the expansion of ISIS in Syria and Iraq witnessed the most prominent stages of Kurdish women's military participation during the Rojava revolution that began in the summer of 2012.

Rojava women participation in defeating the global threat of ISIS was widely echoed in the circles of societies of the world, despite the effectiveness of women in the political and social fields like most socialist revolutions that took place in different regions of the world during the past century. Northeast of Syria women involvement in fighting ISIS and the Turkish occupation are the most important features of the Rojava revolution.

The photos of Kurdish women fighters in Kobane topped newspapers, websites and television screens in dozens of countries around the world, as women represented the shield of societies resisting the global threat of ISIS, following the decades-old struggle and controversy for Kurdish women to gain freedom from social restrictions and obstacles.

Hundreds of women have fought violent battles on different fronts in the villages of Kobane in the far north of Syria, alongside the People's Protection Units (YPG) to prevent the advance of ISIS from the villages to the neighborhoods of the city, in the largest attack launched by ISIS after its declaration of the "alleged caliphate" in Syria and Iraq on the 15th of September 2014.

On the 5th of October, two guerrilla operations were carried out by the leaders of the YPJ Women's Protection Units, Arin Mirkan and Rivana, on the Mashtanoor hill overlooking Kobane against a gathering of mercenaries to prevent their advance towards the city.

Azema Deniz, one of the leaders of the YJP, says that the woman defended the existence of the Kurdish people who suffered the siege for two years before the start of the great attack, and who had to face that bitter reality to break the attack and lift the suffocating siege.

According to unofficial statistics reported by media websites and news agencies; About 400,000 civilians were displaced from Kobane to northern Kurdistan during the ISIS ground offensive towards the city.

Deniz added, "Kurdish women had a great influence in repelling ISIS's attempt to control the city, and this constituted a historic turn in the issue of women's liberation, away from the beliefs of the prevailing system in the world based on obliterating the reality of women and their role in societies."

Pictures of international fighters and YPG and YPJ’s fighters in Kobane were hung in public streets in different cities around the world in Japan, Argentina and Afghanistan, along with dozens of European countries, and the world's eyes turned towards the fateful battle that might threaten every person in the world.

The international greetings of the fighters, followed the repulsion of the ISIS attack in northern Syria, which was posing a threat on the world as well, especially the West, in conjunction with the car-ramming, bombing and stabbing operations claimed by ISIS in a number of European cities.

On November 10, 2015, weeks after the liberation of Kobane, former French President Francois Hollande received at the Elysee Palace in the capital, Paris, the leader in the Women's Protection Units, Nasrin Abdullah, and the former Co-chair of the Democratic Union Party, Asia Abdullah, to discuss ways to eliminate ISIS. France is one of the effective countries within the international coalition formed to fight ISIS in Syria and Iraq.
