The KSC in Afrin canton issued a statement to the public opinion in Sardam camp in al-Shahba canton against the background of what the Battan region witnessed in terms of the suicide of a Kurdish girl. The text of the statement read:

"In continuation of its repressive policies, Turkey is pursuing all means to exterminate the Kurds, as well as restricting women and exercising all kinds of vice against them, bringing them to the case of assault and harassment of Kurdish women and girls by statesmen and security men, as Batman Province recently witnessed a tragic event when one of the Turkish police men assaulted and raped a girl, causing severe psychological effect that forced her to commit suicide in one of its hospitals.

This created popular resentment and anger where people went out in massive demonstrations and demand accountability for the perpetrator, but these demonstrations were also met with repression and forced dispersal. This confirms to us and to the whole world that the Turkish state is a partner in these inhumane practices which is a systematic plan to undermine the will of the free woman, which has become a difficult figure in the equation of Turkification of the region.

During the past few days, three women from the same family were kidnapped, as well as the fourteen-year-old Kurdish girl Salwa Ahmed Shasho, who was kidnapped in front of her home in Afrin.

In the name of the women of Afrin canton and the KSC, we condemn and denounce these practices and violations against our people, especially the right of Kurdish women. We appeal to the United Nations, humanitarian and human rights organizations, and specifically women's organizations and feminist movements to carry out their duties towards our people in northern Kurdistan and all occupied areas.
