Mahmoud wrote an article in Al-Ahram, in which he said, "The Kurdish issue has been an important dilemma in the Middle East region for many decades. The Kurds, who are of Aryan origin inhabited the continuous mountains between Iran, Turkey and Iraq, known as Kurdistan. They entered throughout history in many conflicts that this has witnessed until the Islamic conquests came and the Kurdish tribes entered Islam and supported it in many places, the most famous of which was the Kurdish leader Salah al-Din al-Ayyubi's liberation of Jerusalem and the establishment of the Ayyubid state. And the Kurds confronted the Mongols, led by Hulagu.

The writer continued: "For decades, the Kurds, especially in Turkey, were subjected to brutal repression and exclusion. They tried to confront them through numerous struggle movements, most notably the Kurdistan Workers' Party, which was established by its historical leader Abdullah Ocalan during the seventies in southeast Turkey with the aim of establishing an independent Kurdish state." Since the eighties, Turkey has responded by destroying thousands of Kurdish villages, and chased Ocalan everywhere for twenty years. The Turkish forces almost invaded Syria in 1998 to capture Ocalan, who left Damascus moving between several countries until Turkish intelligence succeeded in kidnapping him from Nairobi airport on February 15, 1999. With the help of the Israeli intelligence "Mossad" Since that time, Ocalan has been imprisoned in the Turkish Imrali prison in very poor conditions, after he was sentenced to death and reduced to life imprisonment under European pressure.

He explained, "In fact, a follower of Ocalan's march discovers that he is a thinker and not just a leader of a struggle group, and that the PKK has turned into a national liberation movement and not a separatist movement. Ocalan had previously declared in 1993 and 1995 a unilateral ceasefire, but the Turkish government refused to do so. In December of 1998, two months before his arrest, announced a peaceful approach as a way of struggle instead of armed struggle, but Turkey continued its operations, instead of reaching a peaceful solution to the Kurdish Cause.

He said: “Ocalan discussed many important issues in a series of volumes titled (Manifesto of Democratic Civilization), and his intellectual career witnessed a great development from the belief in armed struggle as the only way to establish an independent Kurdish state to work for a peaceful democratic solution. He presented a road map that clarifies details of this solution, a matter to which the Turkish regime responded by continuing the war of annihilation against the Kurds. "

He added, "Ocalan's integrated vision for the transformation into a democratic nation makes clear that recognition of the right to transform into a democratic nation was the most effective, successful and applicable solution, without the need for a Kurdish national state, and even without the need to transform the ruling nation-state into forms of the federal model. Based on that, he presented against the background of the dialogue with the Turkish state was sufficiently expressing the principles of the hoped-for solution and peace, but the state's propaganda and incitement apparatus, which is deeply affected by the traditions of ethnic cleansing, is unable to decide on the peace and democratic solution, despite the ceasefire attempts announced by the PKK many times from one side, it did not get the necessary answer, but this situation will not last for long. Either the context of peace and a sustainable and honorable democratic solution will be entered into, in which the two parties agree on its basic principles, which is a historical peace and a democratic political solution pattern that will be an example for the peoples of the region and humanity as a whole, or we will return to a new and decisive war.

According to the writer: "This is how Abdullah Ocalan offers his vision. Ocalan now presents a model similar to the great African fighter Nelson Mandela, who was arrested a year later of his presidencies of the military wing of the African National Council, which led the popular struggle against the apartheid regime in South Africa, and spent 27 years in prison defending the rights of his people, before being released due to intense international pressure to become the first black president of the country.

In the conclusion, the Egyptian writer called for a major move to demand the freedom of Ocalan, saying: “After 21 years, the time has come to organize an intense international campaign for his release, in which participation is not limited to Kurds, but all believers in the values of freedom, democracy and national liberation and it shall have a declared coordination committee, and a progressive plan to work from In order to confront the criminality of the Turkish regime through all available means, and to mobilize the world public opinion to force Erdogan's repressive regime to release Ocalan, expose all the criminal practices of this regime against the Kurds and others, and impose international sanctions on him so that he retracts his follies.
