Kurdish National Unity Parties: Last agreement is project of unity among components

On June 16, 2020, the Kurdish National Unity Parties and the Kurdish National Council reached a preliminary understanding during the negotiations for the unity of the Kurdish rank. In this regard, the Kurdish National Unity Parties issued a written statement saying that these efforts are to support the unity project.

The statement included:

“On June 16 of this year, the public opinion was announced about a preliminary understanding between the Kurdish National Unity Parties and the Kurdish National Council in Syria to start intensive meetings that depend in essence on the foundations of the agreement that was made in Duhok in 2014 and which includes in its main formula the formation of a Kurdish political reference whose mission is to work to unify the Kurdish position and its political vision on all matters, including the Kurdish vision in the democratic solution project in Syria, as well as the Kurdish position and role in the upcoming Syrian constitution, and all national entitlements, as we are a historical opposition to the regime and its structure, political project and practices. We should be represented in all discussions that will take place in order to build a new Syria according to the UN Security Council Resolution 2254. We seek to unify the Kurdish discourse in Syria so that the Kurdish street is represented by one political stance. This understanding does not affect the existing partnership among the components in the north and east of Syria from the Kurds, Arabs, Syrians, Armenians, Circassians and others, that is, it is not at the expense of this project; likewise, the Kurdish-Kurdish rapprochement will not be at the expense of other components in Syria, but to increase and support all efforts aimed at preserving the national unity among those components, unlike what is being circulated as  it is a strengthening for the Kurdish hegemony according to their description.

The Kurds see that unity among peoples, cooperation, and joint work in defense, management, and living together are the solution that will exit Syria from its crisis and establish a democratic Syria that embraces all of its people and realizes all aspirations and goals of its components; therefore, our democratic project is the one that brings together all the various components of northern and eastern Syria, and it will develop further when any attitude of the components is strengthened as a democratic project, including the Kurds, Arabs, and others.

Therefore, we, as the Kurdish National Unity Parties, have always been part of the Peoples’ Unity project by virtue of our struggle and our efforts for the sake of unity among all. The efforts that have been made recently between the two Kurdish parties support the project of unity among all the components, and the success of the Kurdish national unity is support and a strong ground to achieve development in this path later.

We did not seek at all to look at things in Syria from one point of view, on the contrary, we were always among the strugglers and we are still in the process of resolving the Kurdish issue in Syria within the Syrian unity, as well as all outstanding issues that concern all components in Syria, and we do not look at Syria the same as some look at it and try to build Syria according to their vision, and then impose solutions on others, we also do not agree with all parties that take Syria as a place of political, social and economic benefit or monopoly, rather, we strive and struggle for building Syria, the unified democratic country, in which all Syrians enjoy justice and equality in rights and duties, and contribute to building Syria, in which all Syrians see their political identity and democratic future.”
