Protests in occupied areas refusing to deal in Turkish lira

The people of Bazaa town in the occupied city of al-Bab protested against raising the price of bread and selling it in Turkish lira in the areas occupied by Turkey in Syria.

Turkey imposes, on the areas it occupied from Syria, dealing in the Turkish lira and using it in commercial transactions and selling food.

According to what our correspondent quoted from sources inside Bazaa town, located in the northeastern countryside of the occupied city of al-Bab, the townspeople went out today in a protest for raising the price of a bundle of bread, selling it exclusively in the Turkish lira, and pricing it in one Turkish lira.

One Turkish lira will be exchanged against the Syrian pound at 400 Syrian pounds, and this is the current exchange rate which fluctuates up and down significantly and surprisingly as a result of the collapse of the Syrian currency, which means that the price of a bundle of bread in the occupied areas is not stable, and according to sources from al-Bab city, whoever wants to buy bread is forced to pay by Turkish lira, and the equivalent of the Syrian currency is not accepted.

It should be noted that the people of Bazaa town protested and went to the streets on the 30^th of last May, as the price of a bread bundle weighed only 600 grams for 350 Syrian pounds. Today, after nearly half a month has passed, it has risen to more than 400 Syrian pounds after it was exclusive in the Turkish lira.

It is estimated that the average need for bread for one family is 4 bread bundles, which means the payment of 4 Turkish liras per day for a bundle of bread, which varies according to the exchange rate if compared to the Syrian pound.

The Turkish occupation move and its occupational institutions come after the imposition of dealing in the Turkish lira as an official currency in the occupied territories on the pretext of the deterioration of the exchange rate of the Syrian lira in light of the start of applying the Caesar Law which accelerates the Turkification process adopted by the Turkish occupation in the occupied Syrian cities.

It is worth mentioning that the Turkish occupation pumps categories of the Turkish paper currency and coins in the occupied lands through its occupational institutions known as "ptt."
