"The United States opposes military attacks in this region. We have asked all parties that move there, the Russians, the Turks and others to stop their actions there," said Pentagon spokesman Jonathan Hoffman.

The conflict has escalated sharply in the past weeks, and violent clashes took place on several fronts in the west of the country, despite urgent calls from the United Nations and relief organizations for a cease-fire to deal with the crisis of coronavirus outbreak.

Last week, Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar acknowledged the continuation of the military intervention in Libya, saying that the recent developments in Libya and changing the balances in the battles in the west of the country came after Ankara provided support to the forces of the National Accord Government headed by Fayez al-Sarraj.
