Positive development between Hamas and Israel: prisoners exchange deal in its final stages

The Israeli newspaper "Maariv" quoted sources as saying that the prisoner exchange deal between Israel and Hamas is in its final stages, and that Israel has agreed to Hamas's demands.

Maariv added, "Israel agreed to release the prisoners under the age of 18, the sick prisoners and women, and will discuss the number of prisoners who will be released, in exchange for Hamas's first step, which is to give information about the Israeli prisoners it has."

She added that "Israel conveyed a message to Hamas through Egypt, that it is ready to implement the first steps in its leader Yahya Sinwar's initiative for the deal."

Other Israeli media indicated that Israel had sent Hamas via Egypt a detailed message of the stages that include the first step of the agreement.

"If the conditions of Israel are agreed upon, the latter will not implement the deal in a short period, but the stages will extend over several months, to ensure that the factions do not take any escalatory steps during the current period in which Israel suffers from the outbreak of the Corona pandemic."

The newspaper stated that the Egyptian mediator - the Egyptian Intelligence - delivered the message of Hamas, which for its part, expressed "a willingness to respond as well."

The Israeli media said that "Cairo, in turn, has contacted the leadership of Hamas on the one hand to inform it of the Israeli message, and the leadership of Islamic Jihad on the other hand, after receiving information from the Israeli side about efforts by Jihad to launch missile attacks towards Gaza's cover settlements."

Sources reported that officials of the Palestine file in the Egyptian General Intelligence Service, the Secretary-General of the "Jihad" movement, Ziad Nakhleh, "called for the necessity of restraint and not to spoil Egyptian moves aimed at easing the blockade on the strip, to prevent the entire region from slipping into an unaccounted battle.”

The Hamas movement announced the capture of a number of Israeli soldiers during the last Israeli war on Gaza in 2014, and has not provided any information about them until today, except on the condition of making Israeli concessions and the release of Palestinian prisoners from its prisons.
