American Website: U.S. Withdrawal, Turkey's attack Allowed ISIS to intensify attacks

The American Website "War on the Rocks" published an article about ISIS benefiting from the U.S. withdrawal and the Turkish attack on northern and eastern Syria.

"After the fall of the so-called ISIS state after it was defeated in its last pockets in eastern Syria, ISIS has changed its strategy, relying on an increasingly intense insurgency and now threatening to undermine security in the region."

"ISIS operations are now taking the form of targeted attacks, including roadside bombings, targeted attacks and then fleeing the port, along with killings carried out by elements of the organization, inside tribal communities".

The website said The SDF, which played a key role in defeating ISIS in al-Baguz, its last stronghold, depends on its ability and willingness to launch successful counter-terrorism campaigns on the continued U.S. presence, and on Turkey's stop of attacks in the region".

Depending to the website "The Turkish intrusion into northeastern Syria in October 2019, and the partial withdrawal of U.S. forces, led to the displacement and suffering of hundreds of thousands of civilians at the border.

"Both developments have raised the threat of ISIS returning to the region."
