​​​​​​​Tel Abyad refugees’ camp is getting ready to receive hundreds of families

Girê Spi District Council, in cooperation with Al-Raqqa Civil Council, established a camp for receiving the displaced from Girê Spi in November 22, 2012, to house the forcibly displaced by the Turkish aggression against the city of Girê Spi and its countryside.

100 tents were set up in the camp as the first phase. It is supposed to reach 500 tents. The administration worked on providing the basic needs for the residents at the camp like blankets, children's clothing, heating and drinking water, in addition to putting the public facilities of roads and sanitation within the camp sectors.

The camp was equipped with autonomous efforts of the Civil Administration in Al-Raqqa and Girê Spi District Council. The camp hasn’t seen any response from the humanitarian organizations so far.

The co-chair of Girê Spi camp, Fadia Sharif, said they have been able to provide all the basic necessities for the camp's arrivals so far, including tents, blankets and heating, as well as meals provided by the kitchen, which was established at the start of the camp's opening.

Fadia said:” the number of families living in the camp currently is 35 and is on rise daily, 200 families are registered now to be received in the next few days.

Fadia appealed the humanitarian organizations to support the camp to accommodate the huge numbers that fled from Girê Spi town and its countryside, most of them live currently with relatives or at schools and non-habitable buildings.

"After we left our city as a result of the Turkish aggression and the random shelling of our homes, I went to Al-Raqqa city, but I couldn't live there because of the high wages of houses and living,” Zulikha Muhammed, a resident in Girê Spi told Hawar News Agency.

Zulekha confirmed that the camp administration had provided them with all the life needs they needed, including tents, blankets, heating, etc.

Farhan Mahmoud, a displaced from Tarbekh, a village in  Girê Spi district, confirmed that the administration had provided them with all their needs within their capabilities.

The displaced appealed the international community to press the Turkish state to stop its blatant attack on their towns and villages and to ensure the safe return of their homes.
