Kurdish community in Japan celebrates Newroz

The Kurdish Society of Japan organized the Newroz celebration in the Greater Tokyo area.

The ceremonial square was decorated with flags of the People's and Women's Protection Units (YPG and YPJ)and the People's Democratic Party(HDP), and slogans written in Kurdish and Japanese.

About 2,000 people from the Kurdish community and their friends in Japan, as well as members of municipalities, local councils and some Japanese media, participated in the celebration.

A number of speeches were delivered and in three languages of Kurdish, Turkish and Japanese, including a speech by the Secretary of the Kurdish Society of Japan and Qasr Jolak,

A speech by the Kurdish Red Crescent Society and a speech by the Kurdistan Friendship Society of Japan and a speech by the Kurdish Students Association. All speeches congratulated Newroz on the general Kurdish people throughout the world. The speeches addressed the policies of the AKP in Bakur Kurdistan and in the North East of Syria.

The former president of the Democratic Union Party, Saleh Muslem, joined the ceremony via Skype, congratulating the Kurdish community in Japan. He referred to the situation in the north and east of Syria and the victories achieved by SDF in the recent campaign against IS.
