Kurdish community in Lebanon commemorates International Women Day

On the occasion of the International Women Day on 8th March, the Democratic Society Movement (TEV-DEM) held a meeting in the city of Tripoli, Lebanon, and it was attended by dozens of Kurdish residents living in the region.

The meeting was held in one of the city's halls, decorated with pictures of the Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocalan, flags and symbols of the Kurdish people and TEV-DEM.

The meeting began with holding a minute of silence. Then, the administrator of TEV-DEM Shervin Judy congratulated at the beginning the women of the world and the Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocalan on the International Women Day. She singled out the parliamentarian Leyla Guven whose hunger strike entered the 119th day and her comrades' in the Turkish state's prisons, demanding to lift the isolation on the leader of the Kurdish people Abdullah Ocalan.

Shervin Judy pointed out that the International Women Day is celebrated in March, the month in which the sorrows and joys of the Kurdish people, including Newroz, Qamishlo uprising, Halabja massacre and the occupation of Afrin took place, and added, "This is the month of resistance for the Kurdish people, and therefore, we affirm that our struggle for our legitimate rights, the freedom of women and the society continues and will continue."

At the end of her speech, the administrator of TEV-DEM Shervin Judy saluted the resistance of the prisons and the victories achieved by SDF in their struggle against IS.

The meeting ended with chanting the slogans that glorify the martyrs and salute the resistance of the prisons and the leader of the Kurdish people Abdullah Ocalan.
