Algerian security forces prevent a demonstration against Bouteflika

Algerian security forces ended a protest rally for a number of students gathered on campus in the capital before they were prevented from going to the street, while students from several universities and students from secondary institutes demonstrated against Bouteflika's candidacy for a fifth term.

Security forces prevented students from the University of Algeria in the capital from going to the streets to protest the candidacy of President Abdelaziz Bouteflika for a fifth term, the correspondent of Sky News Arab reported Tuesday.

The students had carried out a protest on campus, before being prevented from going to the street for a peaceful demonstration.

While the students of several other Algerian universities went out on Tuesday in demonstrations despite strict security measures.

Algerian media reported that, in addition to the boiling state witnessed by various universities, students of some secondary schools went out to the streets, raising slogans that rejected Bouteflika's candidacy for a fifth term.

Bouteflika's nomination for a fifth term sparked outrage in Algeria and prompted hundreds to take part in demonstrations in a number of cities, most notably Algiers.
