Dêrik people ended hunger strike activity, stressing continuation of struggle

The hunger strike organized by Kongra Star and the Democratic Union Party in Dêrik, in solidarity with parliamentarian Leyla Guven, continued demanding to lift the isolation on the Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocalan in its second day with the participation of members of Berav villages' council.

Members of Berav villages' council and representatives of Dêrik Council, Clans Council, the Democratic Union Party and a number of the residents visited the hunger strike tent.

A number of speeches were delivered by representatives of the participating delegations during the event. The speeches stressed the continuation of the struggle until the liberation of the Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocalan and the release of all political prisoners and parliamentarians from the prisons of the Turkish fascism.

The sit-in tent's activities ended with a statement to the public opinion read by the administrator in the Democratic Union Party in Qamishlo Shadia Omar.

The statement noted, "The decision to go on a hunger strike is a struggle against the chauvinist policies taken by the Justice and Development Authority against the Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocalan to tighten the isolation."

It added, "The isolation on the leader is illegal and contrary to the most basic human rights laws in accordance with the international covenants and conventions of the United Nations."

The statement pointed to the hunger strike of various groups of people in solidarity with the activist Leyla Guven, the co-chair of the Democratic Society Conference whose hunger strike exceeded more than a month in solidarity with the leader of the Kurdish people Abdullah Ocalan.

The statement demanded the Human Rights organizations, the International Amnesty, the United Nations, the European Union, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Arab League to do their duty to reject the destructive policies of Turkish fascism.

After the statement completed, the hunger strikers chanted the slogans that salute the resistance of Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocalan.
