Culture, art for combating violence against women

QAMISHLO

In the context of the activities of women's organizations in northern Syria in conjunction with the World Day For Combating Violence Against Women. The Educated Women Association, in coordination with the Women's Body in the Democratic Autonomous Administration in al-Jazeera region, organized a variety of events at Zana Hall in Qamishlo city.

The event was attended by many women and men from civil society organizations in Qamishlo canton, Serê Kaniyê, Tal Hamis and Tal Koçer.

The event began with holding a minute of silence followed by a televised presentation featuring pictures of violence against women and the instructions of the Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocalan on women.

The event also included speeches by the administrators of the Intellectual Women Association, Saria Mohammed, and the deputy of the Culture and Art Body of the Democratic Autonomous Administration, Nour al-Waka'a. The speeches  commemorated strugglers women who had fought and martyred for freedom, dignity and getting their rights.

The speeches also pointed out that violence against women is practiced in all forms and is one of the important issues that society continues to suffer. The speeches also touched upon the role of women in society and the rights they were deprived of by the state and the family.

The speeches called on women to unite and fight together against injustice, slavery and masculine mentality.
