First forum for Syrian women will be held soon

The Syrian Women's Council is preparing to hold a discussion forum on the 5th of October 2018, in Kobanî city on the level of Syria, in the presence of women from most of the Syrian regions to discuss the most important rights claimed by Syrian women, in addition to demanding their rights to participate in the drafting of the new constitution of Syria and to send their votes to the drafting committee of the new Syrian constitution.

In preparation for the forum, Syrian Women's Council spokeswoman Lina Barakat said, "After nearly eight years of the Syrian crisis and the mazes that have taken the country from international conflicts and its region to resolve this crisis, these forces have not been able to reach a meaningful or peaceful solution which saves the Syrian people from this crisis, "and pointed that the woman was the biggest victim through the displacement, and violence.”

Lina Barakat emphasized that in the Syrian Women's Council they are defending and demanding the rights of women in Syria and seeking to build a free and democratic society in which men and women are equal, that women reach their leading role and have a role in resolving the Syrian crisis and in negotiations to find a solution to the crisis

The forum will include 4 axes

Speaking about the forum, Lina Barakat said, "We are in the process of preparing for the first forum of women lawyers and activists in Syria to discuss the most important rights demanded by Syrian women and the most important problems they face." She pointed out that the forum will be in the form of four axes, the first includes the debate on international agreements and UN resolutions on women's rights, in particular resolution 1325 of the role of women in maintaining peace and security.

She pointed out that the second axis will include the discussion on Syrian personal status laws, general laws and the Syrian penal code, and the imbalance contained in this law.

The third axis will be devoted to discussing women's law in democratic autonomous administration, what women achieved in North Syria and what women suffer in the rest of Syria.

The fourth axis will include discussing the most important demands of women in Syria within the new Syrian constitution, in order to establishing their rights constitutionally and legally.

Invitations for 200 activists and lawyers

"Women from the Syrian coast, Damascus, Daraa, Sweida, Homs, Aleppo, Hama and women in the north and east of Syria are scheduled to attend the forum," she said.

She explained that the holding of this forum on Syrian ground has a big role as women who did not leave their country and did not emigrate to foreign countries, and suffered under the Syrian conflict. She noted "Therefore, we are demanding to take responsibility and to be aware of this stage and our responsibilities towards displaced women, immigrants and raped because of the crisis and the war in Syria," she said.
