Cooperative societies are best ways to improve economic reality

According to the general meeting held in Qamişlo canton on August 16 in the presence of the committees of the districts and towns and the role of the cooperative societies of Qamişlo canton, the Economic Committee in the canton held a meeting for the farmers of ​​Tel Hamis district to listen to the farmers' complaints and to explain the concept of the cooperative societies.

The meeting held on Wednesday in the Cultural Center in Tel Hamis district was attended by dozens of farmers, livestock owners, the members of the Economic Committee of Qamişlo Jian Haj Ali and Mohammed Suleiman, the administrative of the role of the cooperative societies in ​​Tel Hamis district Hassen Shukri and the spokesman of the Economic Committees in Tel Hamis Hussein Al Ahmed.

The meeting began with holding a minute of silence, and it was followed by listening to the opinions and complaints of the farmers and livestock owners which focused on the living conditions experienced by the farmers regarding the dryness inflicted to the area, the interruption of electricity for long hours, the provision of seeds to the farmers in addition to securing fuel oil.

Demanding to increase the cotton’s price

The farmers from the Economic Commission of Qamişlo demanded the consideration of the cotton crop which has been a burden for them because of its high costs without a good revenue and to increase the price of cotton because the current price does not meet the farmers who spent huge sums because of the invasion of the worm of their crops mainly.

The participants noted that agriculture is the means which the people of the area depend on and which is considered the backbone of the population of the district as it has side effects on the population and animals.

The Economic Committee’s response by Jian Haj Ali was, “There are many countries that have been invaded by dryness and have become indebted to other countries for billions of dollars so the people have to take into consideration the status of Autonomous Administration at the moment. The Agriculture Committee has distributed seeds for two years successively to the farmers as a loan until the production season.”

Diversity must be involved in agriculture in addition to the non-adherence to one crop

Haj Ali stressed the farmers need to participate to form cooperative societies to improve their economic situation. The Economic Committee will support them. If the Economic Committee cannot fully support the cooperative societies, they will be offered half the value. And she added, “At the meeting in early October, we will discuss all proposals and demands of the people.”

The meeting ended with delivering a speech by Hassen Shukri about the role of the cooperative societies in ​​Tel Hamis, “The people of the area must work on agricultural diversity and do not adhere to the cultivation of one kind of crop; wheat or barley. There are other crops that the farmers can rely on at a lower cost and shorter time; Legumes, vegetables, sesame, corn, potatoes and many other kinds, relying on small enterprises and participating in the cooperative societies to develop themselves and the area.”
