“Afrin Is Kurdistan, Cemetery for Enemies”

On January 20, the Turkish occupation launched an aggression against Afrin canton, and the worst filthy methods were used during the attack. The residents of the canton resisted the aggression for more than 57 days. To protect the civilians from the massacres, the People Protection Units and Women Protection Units (YPG, YPJ) took the civilians out of the canton and started a second phase of resistance that is still ongoing.

To protest against the Turkish occupation of Afrin, thousands of people from Amuda district of al-Jazeera region organized a march on Wednesday at 11.00 pm. The march was launched from the Martyr Jihad Square in the center of the district. Before starting the march, the shop owners closed their shops to participate in the march.

During the march which was launched from the Martyr Jihad Square towards the Youth Center in the district, the crowds raised the pictures of the Kurdish people leader Abdullah Ocalan and the martyrs of the Resistance of the Age, the flags of the Democratic Society, Kongra Star, the Revolutionary Youth Union and the olive branches that have become a symbol of the Resistance of the Age in addition to a banner with, “Afrin the Castle of Resistance” written on.

The crowds chanted the slogans that salute the Resistance of the Age and the slogans that condemn the Turkish aggression and occupation of Afrin canton. The participants stopped in front of the Youth Center and held a minute of silence. After that, a speech was delivered on behalf of Amuda people by the co-chair of the district’s council Abdullah Ibrahim Ahmed.

The interests of the world powers hinder the humanitarian action

Abdullah Ibrahim Ahmed saluted the Resistance of the Age and said, “We salute the resistance of the Afrin people and the Resistance of the Age demonstrated by YPG and YPJ in Afrin against the greatest terrorism,” pointing out that the Turkish occupation, despite launching fierce attacks on Afrin canton with warplanes and rockets, was not able to overcome the will of the Afrin people and the fighters.

Abdullah Ibrahim Ahmed explained that the will of the Kurdish people is stronger than the most modern warfare technologies. “The best example is Afrin’s resistance," he said.

Ahmed pointed out that the Turkish occupation is trying to withdraw its terrorists and mercenaries from Idlib and head them towards Afrin, and all the world powers are silent towards these practices for the sake of their personal interests. These interests are an obstacle to the humanitarian issues. “If they are brought to Afrin, we will fight them because liberating Afrin is for us the main and fateful goal of the Kurdish people and it must be returned to the bosom of Kurdistan and its people,” he said.

The co-chair of Amuda Council Abdullah Ibrahim Ahmed made clear that it is necessary for the international powers to show their attitudes towards the Turkish violations.

The march ended with chanting the slogans that salute Afrin’s resistance and the cheers of “Afrin Is Kurdistan, and a Cemetery for the enemies.”
