Sahar Weshah… artist of paintings with hammer, nails

This is how the 25-year-old Palestinian woman, Sahar Weshah, spends her time and life in an art that is not so well-known. She is known for her art of drawing with nails and silk threads to embody historical paintings and Palestinian characters, according to Sahar, who has loved art since childhood.

During her speech to Hawar news agency, the smile did not leave her face of Sahar, who explained that she loved what she was doing, and that her gift for drawing is not the result of the moment, but that since childhood she discovered her love for drawing and art. She collected colorful stories and drew her paintings with a simple taste, and draws the attention of the drawings and paintings, considering that this stage was her first step in art.

Sahar completed her undergraduate studies and studied basic education at al-Azhar University, but the study and circumstances did not distance her from what she liked, although Gaza lacks of art climate that promotes art and drawing and opens special courses for the arts.

A year after her experience in the art of nails and threads, she realized what she was seeking, but she stressed that this new step was not easy because of her efforts to complete one work of art. "This art requires great time and effort, it needs special tools such as nails, wood and threads."

She did not forget the support of her family to continue and complete her first drawing as she praises her family for supporting her which caused positive influence to continue.

“The art is based on accuracy and is done by using a set of colored nails and threads in color that suits the drawing. It requires a long process and indicates that the completion of one work of art requires more than 4 continuous days and some up to 7 days of continuous work.” She says.

Due to the difficult economic conditions in Gaza, Sahar makes some paintings at the request of those who wish to purchase the paintings and tries to make the prices commensurate with the costs and effort in completing the painting, taking into account the circumstances experienced by the Gaza Strip, there are only 4 artists are able to accomplish this type of art in the strip.

"It's not an easy way to succeed, you have to believe in yourself first to make the others believe you, and then work, persist, and distinguish in the work you do, my ambition is to be an artist and to be polished by professional artists," said Sahar Washah.
