People everywhere must demand learning in mother tongue

The Education Committee of the Kurdistan Society System issued a statement on the occasion of the start of the new academic year.

The committee said, "The children and youths are the future of society. A society that cannot preserve its future will not be able to maintain its existence. The history of the Kurds and Kurdistan is a tragic example in this regard because the authoritarian regimes that govern the parts of Kurdistan (Turkey, Iraq, Iran and Syria) tried by various means to crush and annihilate the Kurdish people physically and culturally, especially in terms of education and schools, where the autocratic regimes try to impose their hegemony on the people of Kurdistan and society.

The committee noted that with the emergence of the PKK, the policies of denial and genocide that the occupying regimes are trying to practice against the people have been blocked, and it said in this context, "Thanks to the struggle of the leader Ocalan and the sacrifices of tens of thousands of martyrs, a new phase of resurgence began in Kurdistan."

The committee noted that today in Kurdistan, millions of students are learning in their mother tongue starting from the primary stage to university. This is a step and a great achievement for the society and children. The statement of the committee added, "We salute all the students and teachers who struggle to close the path before genocide."

The statement added, "Today, a new academic year begins in Bakur Kurdistan, and the Turkish state imposed a system of education based on denial and genocide, especially the cultural field against the Kurdish people and other components." Children, youths, teachers and the public opinion have to reject these policies and stand against them. The right to learn in the mother tongue is halal like the milk of the mother, and students and young people must learn in their mother tongue.

The statement added, "In the new stage of education, the education of the democratic nation and learning in the mother tongue must be promoted and developed so every house, street and garden must be transformed into centers of education, schools and academies."

The statement concluded, "We congratulate the great teacher Ocalan, all the workers in the field of education, the students and the people of Kurdistan on the beginning of the new academic year 2018-2019."
