Journalists: It is time for world press to break its silence about Afrin

ANHA agency’s correspondents interviewed journalists to talk about the silence of the international channels about what is happening in Afrin city and the violations and crimes committed by the Turkish occupation army and its mercenaries against the residents.

"The Turkish attack on Afrin was a plot planned by the major countries in advance, including Russia. Some countries presented arms to Turkey, others remained silent and every state approached according to their interests of these attacks," said the co-chair of the Free Press Union Sipan Jan.

Sipan pointed out that what the Turkish occupation army is doing in Afrin city is unbearable by the human’s mind and conscience. The Turkish occupation, on a daily basis, commits crimes against the people of the city.

"A country like Turkey is hostile and does not respect the rights of journalists and prevents them from transmitting the truth. If they transferred the truth, they would be arrested and imprisoned so the Turkish state will not allow the journalists to enter Afrin city and cover the crimes they commit there," Sipan said.

The international press has remained silent about the violations against Afrin

Sipan Jan said that the international press did not play its role in monitoring what is happening in Afrin city and did not explain that to the world public opinion through its television networks. It remained silent and cared about the interests of the great powers because they are directly linked to their policies. Sipan pointed out that they have to show the truth to put some pressure on the Turkish government, deliver information to the world about what happened in that city, and document what is happening inside it now.

For his part, the journalist Jano Shaker discussed the criminal policies of the Turkish state against the people of Afrin city. He said, "The practices and crimes that are being committed by the Turkish state in Afrin since March until this day have not been committed on any part of the Syrian territories as there are killing cases every day.  

What is happening in Afrin is genocide against people

"There are cases of murder every day and it can be said that they are genocide against the people. Some international, jurist and humanitarian organizations condemned what is going on in Afrin by the Turkish state, but despite that, the international channels are still silent, and they did not present any reports to monitor what is going on in Afrin," Jano Shaker said.

On the international media silence, Shaker said: "The silence of the international channels indicates that these channels are linked to the policy of the great Powers controlling the world. They control the channels and do not want the facts and crimes committed in Afrin to be shown. I think the decision of not posting the truth is related to a political decision.”

Shaker confirmed, "The journalists who are working under the shadow of the Free Media Union played a great role in covering and documenting what happened in Afrin; the crimes that were committed against the residents of the city with reports, videos and photos received."

The international media’s silence about Afrin is a political decision with distinction

Shaker concluded saying that what has happened and is happening in Afrin is a crime against humanity and against the Kurdish people, and the countries have suppressed the facts, and they do not want to show what is happening in Afrin via international satellite channels, and it is a political decision with distinction.
