Demonstrators organized a sit-in in al-Basra on Tuesday outside the gate of the provincial council, closing the headquarters of the local government in the southern province of Iraq.

The anger of the protesters in al-Basra continues, despite the announcement of the Finance Ministry of allocating more than 97 billion Iraqi dinars, to improve the reality of services for citizens of the province.

Protesters denounced "the corruption" and "mismanagement" of services by the local and federal governments.

Earlier today, the coordination committees in al-Basra called on demonstrators to come out in a peaceful demonstration, to claim the rights of al-Basra.

The Iraqi Security Forces removed the tents of protesters in front of the building of the provincial council of al-Basra, and dispersed the demonstrators who took part in a peaceful demonstration, in protest against the deterioration of living conditions.

The protests turned into violent actions when security forces opened fire at angry people attacking government offices and other political parties, killing and injuring demonstrators, while they arrested others.

the coordination committees promised to escalate peaceful sit-ins to take stronger forms of protest, such as blocking the main bridges of the province if there was no actual response to the demonstrators' demands.
