ROJ MOUSA –ZANA SIDI / KOBANI

Kobani, the media spoke a lot about the news of peaceful demonstrations at the beginning of the Syrian revolution in March 2011, as a city calling for freedom and "Azadi", which was one of the main slogans of the Syrian revolution, which later deviated from its purposes, where was the first demonstration in Kobani on the fourth of But in fact Kobani was in the midst of the Syrian chaos preparing for the revolution like the rest of Kobani 's regions to announce the start of the revolution of Rojava after the struggle of more than 30 years by the Freedom Movement.

On July 19, 2012, the beginning of the revolution of Rojava  which took the approach of the democratic nation based on the foundations of the fraternity of the people, renouncing racism and restoring peoples' gains in free living, women's freedom and legitimate defense away from power was a main principle. And rejecting the approach of the opposition Turkey has chosen its extremist nationalist line to seek power and antagonism to the Kurdish issue without providing solutions to the people. The revolution began to form the People's Councils and their self-governing committees to restore and protect the gains of the Kurdish people and other oppressed peoples.

Why Kobani and the 19th of July 2012?

Kobani is the western part of Kurdistan, which is located between Afrin and al-Jazzera the second largest region in Rojava and in terms of its location according to Syrian geography. It is located in the eastern countryside of Aleppo. An important road cross in the area, where the roads pass Giresipi /Tel –Abyed , Manbij , Sereen .

Kobani was one of the areas where the Kurdish political parties and the freedom movement have been active since the middle of the last century. With the start of the Kurdish political movement with the formation of the first Kurdish party in 1957 and the entry of the Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocelan to Syria for the first time through Al-Bour  village west of Kobani, 1979, The two main stations at the beginning of the political movement in Kobany.

With the expansion of the freedom movement around Rojava between Afrin, Kobani and al-Jazzera the Kurdish arena began to undergo radical changes thanks to the struggle despite all the difficult circumstances which led to increased political awareness among the people who started organizing themselves and managing them, learning the mother language, spreading the idea of freedom and solving the Kurdish issue and its necessities for democratization of the East Middle.

At the beginning of its revolution, Syria witnessed a difficult and great ordeal in terms of achieving the desired goals of the rebellious people, which in turn turned into a crisis. With the formation of the so-called its Free Syrian Army to overthrow the Baathist regime through militarization in July 2011,  some of Syrian areas witnessed military operations and violent clashes between the regime and the Free Army.

The violent military operations between the two sides led in most areas to the emergence of the Baathist regime in return for the control of the armed gangs that were wreaking havoc in the area, in addition to targeting the public utilities directly, as happened in the burning of the civil registry in Azaz north of Aleppo during clashes with the regime forces In other wordsRojava also faced another danger  except for the existence of Baathist authority, the entry of armed  gangs which would be accompanied by other military operations that carried the heaviest burden on the people.

With the adoption of the Third Line policy and increasing popular demands for the removal of the regime from the Kurdish areas, which became apparent through the almost daily popular demonstrations in Rojava , the components of Rojava rejected the entry of armed gangs into their areas. On July 18, 2012, which had been controled on Jarablus city near of Kobani city in addition to the intensification of clashes between the regime and groups in al-Shiyoukh south of Kobani, where the removal of the regime from Rojava is an urgent need to crown the struggle of decades of freedom and dignity in addition to protect them from the terror of armed gangs .

From March 2011 to July 2012, what was going on?

In the beginning of 2011, the people began to organize at various levels, whether military, political, or even social, while the oppressive apparatus of the Baathist regime continued to arrest and kidnap national figures with false pretexts and ready arguments. The first founding meeting of the People's Assembly was held in Kobani on February 23, 2012, in accordance with the decisions that resulted in the People's Assembly for Western Kurdistan, which establishes popular councils representing the people in each region.

With the continued demonstrations in the city condemning the regime and calling for its downfall and the establishment of some Kurdish parties to create a sedition among the components, which were known as coordination at the time, most of which later turned into armed organizations recruited by some regional countries such as Turkey, the Council sought to take control of things in Kobani Its voluntary civil committees to protect the people from the threat of  gangs affiliated with Turkey and its allies and end the denial authority of the military establishment of the Baathist regime and its branches.

The activity of the council make the system formative

After domination of some government centers and turning them into centers of civil institutions that fall under the roof of the People's Assembly, the people began to organize themselves within these civic institutions and make them their main reference in the city. They marginalized the government institutions of the regime reconcilitions Committees and Asayish and municipal forces.

In addition to making the institutions of the system a formality in the region, the self-protection committees formed by the people of the region were able to make the presence of the security forces of the Syrian regime inside Kobani as well as . The neighborhood protection committees and the self-protection committees set up barriers at the three entrances to inspect the vehicles Preventing the entry of any strangers to the city. Often, some barriers were placed for a few hours for the lack of military equipment, which were light weapons, hunting rifles and sticks. One of the barriers was placed near Siran Hall, south of Kobani, and another roadblock.

Since the beginning of the meeting between some members of the People's Assembly of Kobani in the garden of the Martyrs 's Families institutions  on the evening of July 18, 2012, the plan of liberation of the Syrian regime began completely, and they decided to control all the security and service centers in the city and liberate them from the Baathist regime, (The military hospital, al-Amal hospital, the Legislative Council, the Justice Council now), the Agricultural Association, Agriculture Directorate and the Division of the Arab Baath Socialist Party and the Military Security on the list of buildings that must be released first.
