What does June 6 mean for al-Raqqa people?

On this day of June 6 last year, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced the Wrath of the Euphrates to liberate al-Raqqa city from IS mercenaries, and this day for al-Raqqa people is the day of optimism and good as they have been freed from the darkness that lasted 4 years.

With the announcement of the campaign, the people have been waiting for the moment of the entry of SDF to the city to get them rid of the oppression of IS mercenaries and to return security and safety to their city.

After al-Raqqa has been liberated by the Syrian Democratic Forces on October 20 last year, al-Raqqa people took great strides in terms of organizing the society and started to form civil councils and institutions to manage the city themselves away from injustice.

Al-Mushleb neighborhood is the first neighborhood that was liberated by the Syrian Democratic Forces, one of the largest neighborhoods in al-Raqqa city. About the feelings of the people, ANHA agency met a number of people who expressed what was ongoing with them with the launch of the campaign to liberate their city from IS mercenaries.

Qassem al-Hasan from al-Mushleb neighborhood said, “Now, we are free in every sense of the word, and the city is thriving by standing its people of Arabs and Kurd together, and everybody works for the service of society.”

Abdul Jalil al-Hamoud said, "June 6 is the day of joy because it was the day of the liberation of the city and our joy was indescribable because we felt like we had come out of a nightmare."
