On a day like this of last year, the Syrian Democratic Forces launched the campaign to liberate al-Raqqa city (the Great Battle) at a time when the international conflict was at its peak to control the so-called Daesh capital, but SDF put an end to all these ambitions and began the campaign to liberate the city and purified it from Daesh and restore life to al-Raqqa "the Pearl of the Euphrates".

When the campaign began, many forces were eager to control al-Raqqa city which occurred in central Syria, through which the Euphrates River passes, the city of the Abbasid caliph Harun al-Rashid, and Alexander the Macedonian remained.

Before the beginning of the campaign Turkey mobilized its army in the service of the United States of America, not to liberate al-Raqqa, as it claimed, but to control it and block the road to the democratic project that started from Rojava and began to emerge in North Syria, which meant that the democratization of Syria and transfer it from an authoritarian center to a decentralized multiparty system, which is what frightens Turkey.

At that point, Syrian democratic Forces had reached the outskirts of al-Raqqa city during the campaign the Euphrates Wrath, which liberated vast areas of al-Raqqa's countryside in several stages.

On 6 June last year, the Syrian Democratic Forces officially announced the launching of the "Great Battle" campaign to liberate al-Raqqa city, ending the illusions of all those who aspire and planting the seeds of hope for the hundreds of thousands of residents of the city, who were living with the injustice of Daesh for about 4 years.

After more than four months of fighting, the Syrian Democratic Forces liberated al-Raqqa city to end a black era in the history of an ancient city that is now a model of co-existence.
